Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Medical Advisor, the successful incumbent will be accountable for the implementation of medical orthotics programs (treatment protocols and guidelines) and undertaking of specified care activities in line with the scope of practice for an Orthotist.
Key Performance Areas
- Review, align and update existing tariffs related to Orthotics including in-built rules applicable to the profession.
- Develop evidence based intervention protocols for Orthotics in respect of the categories of injuries.
- Draft clinical guidelines and processes for trauma/ MVA related conditions.
- Stakeholder relations management.
- Guidelines for Orthotic care of trauma patients.
- Administration and report writing.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma @ NQF 7 in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics related qualification to discipline.
- Valid registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Orthotist/ Prosthetist (OS).
- A qualification in evidence-based medicine and/or treatment protocol development will be advantageous.
- Relevant 5 -7 years' experience in the field of Medical Orthotics of which 2 years must have been on a supervisory level/ or area of expertise.
- With experience in Vocational Rehabilitation and Return to work guidelines.
- With experience in defining and developing evidence based treatment protocols of Medical Orthotics-related treatment protocols.
- With experience working with ICD 10 codes, CPT codes and NAPPI codes Experience in Functional Capacity Evaluation and associated reports and tariffs applicable.
- With experience in Physical and Functional limitations of people resulting from disabilities, Community or Home-based prosthetic fittings.

- Knowledge of Medical Billing, Tariffs and Coding applicable to Medical Orthotics intervention and rehabilitation.
- Knowledge of the National Health Act, RAF Act and other health related legislation such as the Medical Scheme's Act, etc.
- Knowledge of general rules governing tariffs for medical orthotics.
- Knowledge of modifiers applicable to Medical Orthotics tariffs.
- Knowledge of evaluation procedures, measurements, assistive devices and treatment applicable to Medical Orthotics profession.
- Knowledge of standards within the health industry.
- Knowledge and understanding of rehabilitation principles.
- Knowledge of the legislation governing RAF, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of the RABS Bill and its benefits.
- Knowledge of "managed healthcare" or financial risk assessment principles (environment).
- Display a basic understanding of evidence-based medicine.
Remuneration
Total cost to company applicable to this position is minimum R766 887.00 per annum, negotiable.
