ROAD ACCIDENT FUND (RAF)
 
The Road Accident Fund's mission is, to provide appropriate cover to all road users within the borders of South Africa; to rehabilitate and compensate persons injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in a timely and caring manner; and to actively promote safe use of our roads.
The Organisation requires the services of a qualified individual at its Pretoria Regional Office for the position:

JUNIOR OFFICER: DIRECT CLAIMS TASK 8

Purpose of the Role: To provide claims handling to ensure prompt and fair settlement of Claims of low value.
 
 
Key Performance Areas
Estimate value of claims  
  • Review documentation or determine further documentation needed.
  • Scrutinize claims documentation (e.g. pay slips, etc.).
  • Estimate Quantum of LOS\ funeral benefit in terms of DOA.


To acquire expert advice from experts
  • Instruct the relevant experts to quantify the benefits e.g. actuary, industrial psychologists on the advise of and approval of the assessor and/ or senior assessor.
  • If no expert is required, quantify the benefit.
  • Consider experts reports particularly actuarial calculations.
  • Consider any prior payments/interim payments/WCC/Social grants under the advisement or approval of the assessor or senior assessor.
     
 
To make an Offer in terms of DOA  
  • If no expert is required, calculate the value of benefits.
  • Loss of support Quantum calculation on advice of and approval of the assessor and/or senior assessor.
  • Details of income and fringe benefits in major sectors.
  • Determine contingency deductions to be applied.
  • Interpretation of 160K limit under the Amendment Act
  • Assess the funeral account and award benefit in terms of the ARAF Act
  • Application of rules of collateral and accelerated benefits.
  • Factor in contingencies also consider merits allocated.
  • Prepare offer as approved by the assessor or senior assessor.
  • Obtain approval in terms of delegation and send out offer.
  • If accepted request payment.
  • If not accepted revise offer. 
     

Liaising with claimants
  • Communicating and explaining offers to claimants.
  • Attending to queries with claimants. 


Liaise with Compensation Commissioner or Employer Individually Liable
  • Send correspondence to CC/EIL/SASSA to establish whether they have effected any awards/payments.
  • Factor the final award into the calculation of the benefits.
 
Evaluate interim payment request
  • Consider any prior awards by CC/EIL/SASSA.
  • Calculate the Loss which should be paid as an interim payment.
  • Initiate payment if applicable.
  • Facilitate payment upon acceptance of offer.
  • Revise offer in consultation with Attorney.

Qualifications & Experience
  • NQF 6 (Diploma or Advanced Certificate) related qualification to discipline.
  • Relevant 2 years working experience in the Claims environment.

Remuneration
Total cost to company of the minimum remuneration package applicable to this position is R270 525 .00 per annum and will be negotiable commensurate with experience.
 
NB: "RAF offers Total Employment Cost packages with no additional contributions from the Employer, successful candidates are required to structure their packages in a manner that will suit their needs"
