The Community Engagement department invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 


The Requirements
Masters in a relevant discipline, preferably Humanities or Social Science (must be prepared to register to do a PhD)

Candidates are also required to have experience in Community Development (CD) and Community Engagement (CE) (partnership development, Service Learning, Volunteerism and Engaged Research)


In addition, the following requirements are applicable:
  • Tutoring, facilitation, or conference presentation experience required. No teaching experience is required.
  • Ability to teach diverse groups in the University and the broader community.
  • No research supervision is required.
  • Some administrative experience, albeit in informal contexts, e.g., student or sports clubs, work experiences.

The Requirements
Lecturer
  • At least a PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology or related field. Teaching, research and community engagement focus in quantitative ecology with experience in social ecological systems and ecosystem services. Experience in spatial analysis (GIS and remote sensing) will be an advantage.
  • Tutoring, facilitation, or conference presentation experience required. Some teaching experience is an added advantage.
  • Ability to teach in some of the following areas: quantitative ecology, social-ecological systems and ecosystem services

Senior Lecturer

As a guide, progress implies intended submission within the next 12 months. PLUS Experience: Usually 7 to 10 years of teaching experience.   • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.

Main Objectives
As the line manager of the relevant unit, the Senior HR Practitioner and the unit team are required to offer a professional and valued HR service to the relevant Faculties and/or Divisions. Within the Recruitment and Staffing Section, the individual is also expected to contribute to developing best practices, policies, and processes that enable and drive increased long-term efficiency and effectiveness of staff within the relevant Faculties/Divisions. 
The HR Officer and the Senior HR Practitioner will operate in a unit. These units are in the Recruitment and Staffing Section. The Recruitment and Staffing section is within the P&C Division.
 
The Requirements
A relevant B. Degree (preferably in Industrial/Organisational Psychology or Human Resources) plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
  • A minimum of 4 years’ previous experience as an HR Practitioner, where recruitment and HR Admin are key responsibilities;
  • Experience where HR work has been executed with the use of an HR information technology system;
  • Experience in most, if not all, areas of HR (for example, Recruitment and Selection, HR Administration, Industrial Relations, Training and Development, Remuneration, Performance Management, HR IT systems, and Well-being);
  • At least one year’s management experience;
  • Assisting with the development of structures, systems, and processes to ensure service delivery of a high quality that is valued by others;
  • At least 24 months of experience in a pressurised, complex, and high-volume people management environment, dealing with a large staff complement (minimum of 500 employees);
  • Previous experience within the Higher Education sector will be an advantage.

Rhodes University has a vaccination mandate as part of its Conditions of Service.  The implementation of the vaccine mandate has been held in abeyance from 01 January 2023.  Should the COVID-19 situation change in a way that the number of cases of COVID-19 pose a threat to the University, the implementation of the Vaccine Mandate will be re-activated and all staff would be required to be fully vaccinated.
