Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level, and make some contribution to their profession.

The requirements
Professor:
- At least a PhD in Ichthyology, Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, or equivalent.
- Extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and post graduate levels.
- Experience in teaching and research, at the undergraduate and post graduate levels in aquaculture, fisheries science and/or ichthyology, in fresh, brackish water and/or marine systems. Expertise that covers these fields broadly shall be preferential to a narrow or more specialised area of expertise.
- Supervision of Masters and PhD candidates to completion.
- International profile in discipline.
- Track record of research publication.
- Track record of administration, management, and leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
- A track record of research grant acquisition.
- A track record in ecophysiology research is required.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Economic Geology or Hydrogeology (Re-advertising)
Post description: The Department of Geology seeks qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in either the field of Economic Geology or Hydrogeology to commence by 1 July 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post-holder’s primary responsibilities are teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in either Economic and Exploration Geology or Hydrogeology and related geophysical methods. The incumbent is expected to develop a successful externally funded research program including postgraduate student supervision.
Requirements: The successful candidate will have a PhD and an appropriate research track record either in the field of Economic Geology or Hydrogeology. In Economic Geology we require experience in a range of metallic ore deposits. Experience in critical metals would be an advantage. Hydrogeology may include the physical and chemical aspects of groundwater research (e.g., groundwater exploration, development and monitoring). Previous work will have resulted in peer-reviewed publications in international journals as appropriate to the level of the post. Relevant teaching experience and MSc or PhD student (co-)supervision are requirements as appropriate to the levels of the post.

Economic Geologists find various collaboration opportunities with existing staff members and can access competitive in-house funding for doctoral and postdoctoral research fellowships. In Hydrogeology, close cooperation with a successful research group in the Institute of Water Research offers involvement in several ongoing and forthcoming groundwater projects. Career progress to Professor level is merit-based.
