The Finance Division (Research Finance) invites suitably qualified candidates to join their vibrant team.
Main Objectives
The purpose of this job is to support the Manager: Institutes and Contracts office of Research Finance in providing seamless financial administrative processes to support researchers and directors of Institutes and self-funded Units. Aspects would include: -
- Financial administrative support to researchers in academic departments and Institutes, who have been awarded various research grants and project funding.
- Timeous production of accurate financial reports, prepared on the basis on Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP) and International Accounting Standards (IAS), in accordance with funders specified requirements.
- Supporting the manager by implementing the various funding mechanisms and claiming cycle processes required in managing the various income streams.
- To keep abreast of VAT and Tax legislation, in order to ensure the correct vat treatment of externally funded projects, thereby maximising the cash-flows of research projects.
The requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent PLUS approximately 4 years’ relevant experience, where such experience must include:
- Previous experience in a pressurised accounting administrative environment where there were multiple demands and tight deadlines
- Previous experience in working in a computerised accounting environment
- Previous experience in preparation of financial reports for audit and/or submission to external parties
- Previous experience in research grant financial administration would be an advantage
- Studies towards a post matric or post matric qualification in a relevant field will an advantage

Senior Instrumentation Scientist in the Faculty of Pharmacy

Main Objectives
To support the research and teaching of the Faculty of Pharmacy through the management, maintenance and use of complex analytical instruments or instrument clusters including related auxiliary equipment. A secondary but related purpose is also to further research in the Faculty through the teaching, training and supervision of post-graduate students and other instrument users, and through own research. The Instrument Scientist manages the teaching and research equipment in all laboratories in the Faculty. During term time, the Instrument Scientist may support teaching sessions in laboratories. The role holder will be expected to work closely with the technicians to contribute to maintaining the relevant work areas used for practical teaching, specifically when it comes to storage of instruments and equipment.

- In-depth experience in solving complicated analytical problems.
- Understanding of current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) and Laboratory practice.
- Extensive experience in the maintenance and use of analytical and other equipment.
- Extensive utilization of analytical equipment in research.
- Track record of providing good quality technical infrastructure (data production and data communication) for instrument users.
- Previous experience working in a university research laboratory, the biotechnology/pharmaceutical, chemical, food or other industries where a number of equipment and analytical instruments are used.
- Experience with working in cGMP settings.

The requirements
Lecturer:
- At least a PhD in an entomological topic.
- Tutoring, facilitation, or conference presentation experience required. Some teaching experience is an added advantage.
- Ability to teach in some of the following disciplinary areas: general entomology, ecophysiology, insect diversity, insect form and function, parasitology, medical veterinary entomology, forensic entomology, apiculture, genetics, conservation, pest management.
- Some research supervision of postgraduate degrees is an added advantage.
- Some administrative experience albeit in informal contexts e.g., student or sports clubs, work experiences.

Purpose
The Fundraiser: International will lead the University’s international fundraising efforts. S/he will develop a strong funding pipeline through research, proposal writing and strategic content development to mobilise resources for the University’s fundraising projects. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, communication, journalism, international relations, or related field is required plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

- Knowledge of donor trends, rules and regulations of major donors, international major players, and consortiums.
- Proven experience developing proposals.

- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level required.
- Experience in teaching in the following disciplinary areas: Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry.
- Experience in Industrial Pharmacy would be an advantage.
- Good research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required.
- Emerging national profile in discipline.
- Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
