- Some research supervision of postgraduate degrees is an added advantage.

- Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required.

A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical qualification plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
- Appropriate technical experience/certification (computer-based instrument repair, troubleshooting)
- Experience in the maintenance of electronic analytical equipment
- Supervision of a team
- Previous experience working in a technical environment
- Previous experience working with building safety standards.

Main Objectives:
Academics are expected to assume administrative, management, and leadership duties at the Departmental, Faculty, and University level and contribute to their profession.
In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement, as well as contribute towards the governance of the institution. This leadership contribution of the Associate Professor and Professor should be evident at the departmental, Faculty, and institutional levels. The incumbent is expected to take on the role of Head of Department when needed and must be willing to assume these responsibilities.
The requirements
The job requirements at each level are specified below:
Associate Professor
- At least a PhD in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture or equivalent.
- Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Experience in teaching and research in aquaculture and fisheries science is required. Ichthyology would be beneficial.
- Research supervision of Master’s and PhD degrees to completion required.
- An established national and an emerging international profile in the discipline.
- Track record of research publication and research grant acquisition.
- Proven track record of administration, management, and leadership roles in teaching, assessment, research, and community engagement.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining national and international partners and collaborators.
- At least a PhD in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture or equivalent.

The Department
The Rhodes University Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education (PECE) is peopled by staff and students committed to educational and socio-economic redress and transformation within the challenging post-colonial context of South Africa and our continent. Integral to these ideals are our commitment to supporting multilingualism, literacy and numeracy, interdisciplinary, extensive subject knowledge inclusive of indigenous and other situated knowledge, creative and innovative classroom pedagogies (such as play-based and experiential learning), and critical assessment practices. Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), community engagement, and professional involvement in their field beyond the university, recognizing differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University level.
In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning, research, professional involvement in the field, and community engagement, as well as to contribute towards the institution's governance. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.
The Requirements
Senior Lecturer:
A PhD in Education with research and at least three years of primary school teaching and/or primary teacher education experience.
- Considerable teaching experience and research in one of the following: Mathematics Education, Life Skills Education, or Language Education (IsiXhosa).
- Teaching experience in one of the following areas: Education Studies, Psychology in Education, Sociology in Education, Philosophy in Education, Curriculum, and Pedagogy would be an advantage.
- Research and experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Education would be advantageous.
- Research supervision of at least Masters degrees.
- Emerging national research profile in the field of primary education.

A Master of Education with at least three years of primary school teaching experience. Progress toward a PhD would be an advantage.
