The Department

Main Objectives
To provide overall and effective implementation, management and monitoring of the university’s total rewards system, inclusive of compensation and benefits programmes. This position provides overall support for the development, advisement and monitoring of remuneration and benefits legislative and administrative processes for Rhodes University.  To work closely with the Finance Division in respect of the staff costs budget, line items and the development of cost control and risk mitigation related to these.
 
The Requirements
 A relevant B Degree with approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
  • Previous experience in a computerized remuneration and benefits environment working with HR staff remuneration costs
  • Previous wellness experience
  • Previous experience in establishing and implementing administrative systems and processes and working with an HR IT system
  • At least one year’s supervision/management experience
  • Some HR generalist experience will be an advantage
  • Previous experience in a computerized remuneration and benefits (e.g. retirement funding, wellness, medical schemes) environment working with HR staff remuneration costs within an organisation with a staff complement of more than 1000 people.

Job Description
Manager: Secretariat and Governance (Grade 15)
Registrar's Division 
The Registrar's Division invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives
To strategically develop systems and processes in order to ensure the provision of an efficient, professional and quality administrative and secretariat support services to University Committees and governance structures of the University as required.
 
The Requirements

Any relevant NQF Level 7 Qualification (preferably in Administration) plus approximately 3-4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
  • Excellent English language skills in writing succinct and synthesized reports and minutes
  • Previous experience in a Secretariat and Governance function, preferably within a Higher Education environment.
  • Previous experience working with committees including the scheduling and organizing meetings and a track record of doing so efficiently; the preparation of agendas for meetings; taking minutes of meetings; meeting deadlines with a track record of doing so.
  • Previous administrative experience within a computerised administration environment which includes good organisational and planning skills as well as problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Experience working with large volumes of work.
  • Track record of using technology to create efficiencies and improve service.
  • Track record of continuous improvement.
  • Experience in website content management is an advantage.
  • Excellent typing skills, including typing draft minutes/notes in a meeting.
Ability to lead a team and previous supervision/management experience of at least three years.

Job Description
Electrician x2 positions (Grade 10)
The Electrical section of the Facilities and Infrastructure Division invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives
The purpose of the job is to ensure the maintenance of all electrical networks and related equipment including general electrical appliances used in the catering, residence and other divisions.
 
The Requirements
Qualified Installation Electrician (NQF level 6) plus approximately at least 3 years post apprenticeship experience where such experience includes: -
  • Be in possession of a valid HV Regs certificate to do MV switching
  • Previous experience in light and heavy current voltage systems
  • Previous experience in maintaining power sub-stations
  • Experience in fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of general electrical appliances
  • Previous experience in installation, maintenance, and repairs of general lighting equipment.
  • Previous experience in safety and working within the regulations laid down by OH&S Act
  • A valid code B driver’s licence
  • Must be a registered Electrician as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • At least 1 years’ in a supervisory or team leader position OR be in possession of an RU Supervision Certificate.
