Assistant Manager: Central Cleaning Services (Grade 13)
Division of Residential Operations
The Division of Residential Operations invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team.
 
The Department
The Residential Operations Division is committed to providing a range of support services that enhance and complement the education experience of all students at the university.
We also commit ourselves to providing excellent hospitality and administration services to all internal and external customers of RU.
This is done through various services, including:
  • Food Services
  • Housekeeping Services
  • Conference and Events Services
  • Central Cleaning Services
  • Mail Room Services
  • Janitorial Services
 
Main Objectives
The main objective of this job is to assist the Manager: Housekeeping Services with the management and the administration of the Housekeeping Services department to ensure the delivery of a high standard of service to Rhodes University.
 
The Requirements
A relevant degree / diploma (NQF Level 7) in Hospitality Management, plus at least approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
  • Previous experience working in a hospitality service-related environment where the key focus has been on the planning and organization of service delivery.
  • Previous administrative experience within a computerized administration environment.
  • At least 3 years’ experience supervising and/or managing staff.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Previous experience and/or knowledge of cleaning and quality methodologies.
  • Previous experience in stock control.

Job Description
Electrician (2 positions)
The Electrical section invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 


Main Objectives
The purpose of the job is to ensure the maintenance of all electrical networks and related equipment, including general electrical appliances used in the catering, residence and other divisions.
 
The Requirements

Qualified Installation Electrician (at least at NQF level 4) plus the following: -
  • Have a valid HV Regs certificate to do MV switching
  • Must be a registered Electrician as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and registered with the Department of Labour
  • A valid driver’s licence to legally drive a light delivery vehicle
In addition to the qualifications, approximately 3 years post-apprenticeship experience where such experience includes: -
  • MV (11000V) installation, switching, distribution and protection maintenance with specific reference to SANS10142-2
  • LV (220VAC/380VAC) installation, switching, distribution and protection maintenance with specific reference to SANS10142-1
  • Power reticulation in buildings and the maintenance thereof
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing general lighting and/or sport lighting equipment.
  • Must have worked with the regulations laid down by the OH&S Act
  • Operating and maintaining standby generators, inverters
  • At least 1 year’s staff coordination/supervision experience OR have an RU Supervision or Foundation Supervision Certificate
The following experience and knowledge will be an advantage: -
  • Operating and maintaining UPSs
  • Operating and maintenance of electric boilers and heat pump hot water systems
  • Operating, inspection and maintenance of manual and addressable fire detection systems will be an added advantage
  • Fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of general electrical appliances, including major commercial kitchen appliances, commercial laundry equipment
  • Renewable energy, especially solar
  • Lighting protection installation and maintenance

The Library Services Division invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 
 
Main Objectives
Identifies and creates appropriate knowledge structures, and oversees the creation, management, and maintenance of metadata within the Rhodes University Library Services.
This role plays a crucial part in ensuring data integrity, data curation, accessibility, and discoverability for various data assets, including research outputs, primary and secondary resources. The Metadata Curation Manager leads a team of metadata specialists and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support the organisation's data management and analysis efforts.
 
The Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (NQF level 8) OR a 3-year Degree, plus a 1-year Post-Graduate Library Diploma (NQF level 8) plus approximately 8 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -   
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in metadata creation in an academic and/or research library
  • NACO trained (authority record creation)
  • At least 3 years’ previous supervision experience.
  • Familiar with XML, MODS, Dublin Core and MarcEdit
  • Project Management experience
Previous exposure to archives and/or research data curation and taxonomy development will be an advantage.
