The Department is situated within the Faculty of Commerce, primarily servicing students reading for the BBusSc, BCom and BSc (InfSys) degrees. The Department was first established at Rhodes University in 1980 as a sub-department of the Department of Business Administration (now Management). Today, it is a flourishing, independent Department with a full undergraduate and post-graduate programme.
Information Systems is a two-year major that attracts numerous students intent on pursuing careers in either Information Systems or Accounting. All students are required to have completed a first-year semester course in computing, offered by the Department of Computer Science, before registering for Information Systems.
The Department offers courses at the second, third and fourth (honours) year levels, as well as Masters and PhD degrees by thesis.
