Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R 600,141.00
Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R 782,346.00

The requirements
- A Masters or equivalent NQF 9 qualification in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, or Graphic/Visual Communication Design, or similar is required.
- Hands-on experience in the practice of design is a requirement.
- Some teaching experience is advantageous within an academic environment or media practice. Practical and informal facilitation of learning within a media production context is understood to be of relevance.
- Ability to teach and research in some or all areas: Design Studies, Graphic Design, Design Methodologies, Digital Media Studies, Visual Language and Literacy, Visual Communication, and Design practice.
- Research supervision experience at the Honours and Masters level will be an advantage.
- Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles are an advantage (leadership roles may be informal).

The Requirements
Candidates are required to hold a PhD in Microbiology or a related discipline, with teaching and research experience in Environmental Microbiology or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in Mycology.

Lead Lecture Venue AV Technician (Grade 15)

The Department of Information and Technology Services invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team.
Main Objectives
To lead the lecture venue AV refurbishments and day to day operations. This requires an above average knowledge of AV and its use within a teaching and learning environment as well as technical aspects of a network of the same size and complexity as the Rhodes network. To change strategy, communicate strategy and manage the roll out of the strategy and refurbishments in central lecture venues, as well as participate proactively in discussions with Teaching & Learning, Lecture Venue Committee and Facilities Division.
The Requirements
A relevant NQF level 6 plus approximately 6 years relevant experience where such experience includes: -
- At least three years in an IT or AV environment in a teaching and learning environment of similar complexity/scale to Rhodes
- At least two years supervising staff
- At least two years project management experience
- At least one year experience specifically in AV
