LECTURER IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND APPLIED MATHEMATICS AT RHODES UNIVERSITY

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at Rhodes University is seeking to appoint someone at the level of Lecturer and invites suitably qualified candidates to apply.
The requirements
A PhD in Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics or Theoretical Computer Science, however, candidates with an MSc in Mathematics Theoretical Physics or Theoretical Computer Science, with sufficient progress made in completing a PhD (i.e. have completed at least 2 years of PhD study), may also be considered. Candidates should have an ability to teach in Applied Mathematics.

Job Description

- Leadership and management roles at the departmental or faculty level, having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to review current functioning or explore new processes or taken responsibility for large projects, or similar experience in responsible leadership roles in the legal profession/commerce.

Main Objectives
The purpose of the job is to manage the activities and services of the NESP Project, including the quality assurance processes and systems of the project and to ensure that these occur timeously and precisely.
The requirements
A Honours Degree (Masters preferable), with 5 years relevant experience in project management with experience that includes: -
- Exposure working with DHET-funded projects in a management position, would be an advantage
- Previous experience in leading projects with multiple stakeholders
- Previous administrative experience within a computerised environment, which includes good organisational and planning skills as well as problem-solving and time-management skills
- Previous experience managing and reconciling budget accounts is essential
- At least 3 years supervision experience where such experience includes the supervision and motivation of staff and dealing with conflict
- A valid Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel to NESP meetings and events
