SENIOR ANALYST: PERFORMANCE & ATTRIBUTION 

• *Job Grade: D3 - D5

Purpose of the role: 

To deliver accurate performance measurement, attribution, and reporting for PIC portfolios. 

 

Requirements:

·       Minimum qualifications and experience: 

·       Postgraduate degree in commerce, science or any related equivalent qualification. 

·       CFA, CIPM and/or equivalent advantageous. 

·       5 - 8 years relevant experience. 

·       FAIS RE 05 certification or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. 

 

Duties:

·       Perform and manage data reconciliation between source systems and performance measurement and attribution systems. 

·       Oversee integrity and completeness of performance data across systems (e.g., StatPro/Revolution, HiPortfolio, or equivalent), in collaboration with accounting, valuation, and investment teams. 

·       Calculate and validate time- and money-weighted returns (IRR) for unlisted portfolios, while monitoring performance and attribution across PIC’s investment portfolios. 

·       Measure and report portfolio performance against stipulated benchmarks on a monthly and quarterly basis. 

·       Conduct in-depth analysis of portfolio performance drivers across listed and unlisted investments, including attribution, vintage, sector, asset class performance, and fund manager returns. 

·       Provide insights into portfolio trends, risk-return characteristics, and benchmarking outcomes. 

·       Produce and present monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for internal and external stakeholders. 

·       Maintain and enhance performance models for listed and unlisted/alternative portfolios. 

·       Implement performance and attribution management practices within PIC and monitor compliance with mandates and policies. 

·       Ensure strict adherence to governance frameworks, internal controls, and audit requirements while supporting Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) compliance and verification processes. 

·       Lead, mentor, and develop graduates and analysts in performance and attribution.

OPERATIONAL RISK ANALYST

Purpose of the role: 

To ensure that operational risk within the corporation is managed effectively by utilising the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) for the identification, assessment, measurement, reporting and monitoring of risk with a view to achieve the corporation’s objectives and risk strategy. 

 

Requirements:

·       BCom degree in Risk Management, Auditing, or a relevant equivalent qualification (NQF 7). 

·       Minimum of 4 years’ experience in operational risk management, auditing, or a related field. 

·       Minimum of two 2 years in operational risk management or audit experience within the financial services industry. 

·       Sound understanding of operational risk management principles, both in terms of depth and breadth. 

·       Good understanding of the Corporation's key business areas and operations. 

 

Duties:

• Assist the Senior Manager: Operational Risk in the identification, assessment, responses and monitoring of operational risk in the PIC. 

• Co-ordinate the risk analysis activities of the PIC Business Units assigned, including both listed and unlisted investments, and identify appropriate responses to risks identified. 

• Work with Compliance, Internal & External Audit functions and other Assurance Providers in order to direct their efforts towards reviewing controls that mitigate the identified risks across the organisation. 

• Obtain and follow up on outstanding items from Internal Audit Department (IAD), Compliance and Regulatory items. 

• Develop and maintain mechanisms for risk monitoring and assessment of automated risk assessment application, conducting operational risk workshops, operational risk assessments for the PIC. 

• Support process of identifying and reporting risk incidents and assist in the design of risk mitigation and control procedures within PIC. 

• Support process of identifying and reporting issues and actions within PIC. 

• Conduct control environment assessments for the organisation. 

• Conduct, implement and assess key risk indicators. 

• Provide independent risk assessment and reporting actions within the PIC. 

• Report both verbally and in writing on the state of operational risk. 

 

Competencies and skills

• Thorough knowledge of operational risk management principles and practices including enterprise-wide risk management principles. 

• Knowledge of the ISO 31000 risk management standards, Basel Operational Risk principles, COSO risk governance principles, corporate governance principles e.g., King IV. 

• Knowledge of (ORX) Operational Risk Reporting Standards. 3 

• Knowledge of asset management/financial services industry. 

• Knowledge of insurance coverage, industry standards. 

• Knowledge of compliance, risk and financial management. 

• Knowledge of financial markets - capital, money, equity, foreign exchange and financial derivatives. 

• Report both verbally and in writing on the state of Operational Risk.
