Post Description
To promote, develop, implement, support and monitor waste management programmes internally and with communities.
Key Responsibilities
Promotion of integrated waste management within the community
Facilitation of the establishment of community recycling and resource recovery facilities
Promotion of community participation in waste management activities
Monitoring of the effectiveness of waste minimisation programs
Projects and research related to waste minimisation
Information Management
Supervision/management of employees including performance management, staff development and discipline
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree with majors or modules in waste management, waste minimisation, environmental science/management or environmental engineering other relevant discipline
Minimum Experience
A minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience in waste minimisation or waste management a comparable environment
5 years’ experience at senior management level
Driver’s license and access to own vehicle

Strong commercial knowledge understanding
Knowledge and/or understanding of Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and regulations
Knowledge of local and international trends and best practices in operations management and waste management
Knowledge of internal standards relating to operations management
Knowledge of Treasury Regulations and Public Service Regulations
Knowledge of the South African Auditing Standards
Knowledge of Fleet and Logistics Management

Preferences/Advantages
A postgraduate qualification in in a relevant field will be an added advantage. This includes MBA or MBL
8 years waste management experience
5 years’ experience at senior management level
Experience working in a public service or local government environment
