Job Description
​​​​​​The Operations Department is offering developmental opportunities for potential Talent to gain practical exposure to supervisory competencies while Acting in the role of Lead Assessor. These developmental acting opportunities - starting 1 April 2024 - offer the ideal chance for individuals to be exposed to the supervision role within a small team environment.
 
Operations Supervision is a specialist competency aimed at ensuring the correct application of standards and protocols within the PPECB’s legislative mandate; transfer of skills and monitoring of consistent technical competence within the legislative framework of the PPECB. The primary objective is to ensure compliance to all relevant procedures, protocols and Service Level Agreements within a defined geographical area.
  • Supervisory roles in the Cold Chain value stream.
  • Ensuring adequate competency levels of staff within the required regional Talent Management framework.
  • Inspection of the handling, storage and transport of perishable products.
  • Coordinating compliance to prescribed processes, procedures and protocols within the framework of the Perishable Products Export Control Act.
  • Ensure correct application of quality management systems, policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements.
  • Embracing personnel competence within the Learning & Development framework.
  • Ensuring effective two-way communication internally as well as externally.
  • Performance management of sub-ordinates within the framework of the PPECB performance motivation system.
  • Administrative tasks and reporting related to the execution of services.
  • Accept the responsibility of continuous self-improvement in their area of responsibility according to the PPECB performance framework.
 
Job Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in an agricultural discipline with at least 7 years relevant work experience or a competent senior assessor with at least 10 years relevant work experience. Please note: Candidates with less experience, but with proven outstanding performance will be considered in line with PPECB’s EE policy.
  • Advanced knowledge, understanding and experience of all cold chain services including specialized functions.
  • Specialist competence on container inspection & calibration, container loading (normal and cold treatment), cold store registration, vessel survey & calibration, vessel loading (normal and cold treatment)
  • Competence on vessel carrying instruction letters and pre-cooling certificates on vessel loading (normal and cold treatment) and container loading (normal and cold treatment)
  • Experience in Food Safety audits will be an advantage.
  • Experience in Quality Management System self-assessment audits will be an advantage.
  • Experience as acting supervisor within the inspections, cold chain and Talent Management strategy will be advantageous.
  • Operational planning; training and organizing skills.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership enabled by responsible and accountable behaviour.
  • A valid code 08 driving license and own reliable vehicle.

Job Description
The Business Process Analyst is responsible for documenting:
  • detailed new business processes for the ERP,
  • updating existing ERP processes,
  • detailed new Human Capital processes
  • updating existing Human Capital processes
The individual will be responsible to operate within the project environment
 
Job Requirements

The Business Process Analyst reports to the ERP Project Manager and is mainly responsible to ensure that the documenting of new and existing processes occurs timeously.
  1. Breaks down high level processes into role and function specific functions for the ERP and Human Capital Management Suite
  2. Update existing mapped ERP processes to reflect the changing business environment
  3. Update existing mapped Human Capital processes
  4. Produce detailed Human Capital processes aligned to the soon to be implemented Human Capital Suite
  5. Collaborate with the Learning and Development Instructional Designer to ensure that process documents are easily understood by target audiences
  6. Render support to Learning and Development and co-facilitate sessions with end-users.

Job Requirements
  • CI: A tertiary qualification in an agricultural discipline with at least 7 years relevant work experience or a competent senior inspector with at least 10 years relevant work experience of which 3 years in a Senior Inspector role
  • Experience in Food Safety audits will be an advantage
 
Technical competencies:
  • Knowledge and experience on the following:
    • Stone fruit, Grapes, Citrus, Pome Fruit, Other Fruit and Vegetables
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of all inspection and/ or cold chain services relevant to the specified geographical area.

Applications will be considered by means of a multiple-hurdle process; consisting of pre-screening of applications; formal interviews; followed by assessments for short-listed candidates. Formal developmental feedback will be provided to unsuccessful candidates to assist them with their PDP’s (Personal Development Plans).
The candidates with the strongest performance in the above process will be appointed. There will be an Acting allowance applicable for the period. The duration of this opportunity is for approximately four months or until product volumes for the Deciduous season have reduced to the extent that the span of work can be easily accommodated by the permanent human resources.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:
  • A tertiary qualification in an agricultural discipline and be in a Senior Inspector role 
  • 3 years' experience in a Senior Inspector role is preferable
  • Experience in Food Safety audits will be an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of all inspection services relevant to the specified geographical area.
  • Proven competence and experience of Citrus, Avocado, Macadamia and Container loading, minor products inspection would be advantageous.
  • Exposure to Export Certification and Orchard Inspection would be advantages.
  • Experience in Food Safety Audits would be advantages
  • Operational planning; training and organizing skills.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.
  • Proven track record of transferring skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and conflict management
  • Proven track record of taking ownership enabled by responsible and accountable behaviour.
  • A valid code 08 driving license and own reliable vehicle.
