DEPARTMENTAL MISSION 
The efficient utilization of Labour, Plant and Materials for Track Maintenance to ensure high quality of structural and Geometric condition of Permanent Way, providing for the safe passage of trains, safety of the public as well as the safety & health of his or her personnel.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Mathematics (SG)
• Complete track master course
• Phase I – introduction theory and experiential training
• Trains-working rules
• Phase II – Theory and experiential training
• Phase III – Theory and experiential training
• Driver’s License
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Track Master
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPAs)
• Impose and upliftment of speed restrictions
• Close and re-open of track
• Apply safe working procedures
• Apply correct safeguarding of crews
• Safe housekeeping including necessary personal protection equipment
• Effective utilization of crew
• Effective utilization of Perway material
• Performing repair work in accordance with specific procedures and standards
• Effective synergy between resources and occupations
• Use IM 2000 data to plan workload
• Use Ultrasonic Measurement Car information to plan workload
• Use report information from operating department to plan workload
• Use patrolman report information to plan workload
• Use EMPAC System to plan, schedule and control the workload
• Act 85 responsibilities
• Act 16 responsibilities
• Environmental act responsibilities Chapter 7 – SARTSM
 
TRAINING & KNOWLEDGE
• Have a thorough knowledge of the Manual for Track Maintenance.
• Have a thorough knowledge of Trains-working rules, regulations and instructions as applicable to Track maintenance staff.
• Have a thorough knowledge of the working of heavy on-track machines
• Have a good knowledge of track material and correct usage.
• Have a good knowledge of the OHS Act.
• Have a sound knowledge of disciplinary and grievance procedures.
• Have a basic understanding of financial management, e.g. budgetary control
• Have a basic understanding of contract administration, i.e. contract supervision
• Environmental awareness
• Knowledge of MS Windows, Word and Access

DEPARTMENT: ELECTRICAL
 
DEPARTMENTAL MISSION
To execute routine maintenance tasks, corrective and emergency work on Overhead Track Equipment.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 12
• Must have been a trade hand for 4 yrs or Trainee traction linesmen for 3yrs
• Valid heavy-duty license C1 plus valid PDP and be prepared to drive such vehicle.(Please attach copy)
• Category “A” license (OHTE) / Overhead track equipment training certificate, as required for the section concerned and be prepared to be retested before appointment. (Please attach copy)
• Train Working Rules as an added advantage

TRAINING & KNOWLEDGE 
• Special application course, as laid down by the Chief Engineer (Electrical) High Voltage/ Medium Voltage
• Electrical Safety Instructions BBF 369
• Training of 3 months on “live” 3 kV D.C. overhead track equipment.
• Fire fighting

• Crane and lifting operations according to code 29 and 30.
