WORKSHOP MANAGER
SALARY GROUP: Management
LOCATION: PRETORIA
REFERENCE: Tech Mngt/APRASA/APRIL2025
DEPARTMENT: Technical Department
DEPARTMENTAL MISSION
To ensure that maintenance strategies and policies are implemented and execution of maintenance plan (scheduled, unscheduled maintenance and breakdowns)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• National Diploma: Mechanical Engineering / postgraduate certificate
• National Technical Certificate (Mechanical or Auto Electrical)
• Trade tested and or Artisan related qualifications.
• Track record of success
EXPERIENCE
• 8 years in workshop management in fleet/bus/coach operations and maintenance of which at least 5 years must be at supervisory level
ADDED ADVANTAGE
• Certificate/Diploma in Technical / Transport Related qualifications
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPAs)
• Manage the planning, scheduling and execution of asset maintenance and repair activities (buses and equipment)
• Manage the maintenance of contracts (including tyre maintenance)
• Manage unplanned work resulting from pre-trips inspections, breakdown and emergencies
• Monitor safekeeping and control of assets (maintenance, location and verification)
• Ensure that inspections are done on all coaches before departure
• Ensure timely servicing of buses and conduct quality control spot checks to minimise downtime and maintain fleet availability
• Ensure that coach asset verification, certificate of roadworthy (COR) register, license disc fitment, etc are completed
• Organise and conduct monthly liaison meeting with Organised Labour and keep minutes for reference purposes
• Implement Preventative Maintenance policies and procedures to reduce unexpected failures
• Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments to maintain a safe environment
• Ensure compliance to relevant regulations, policies and procedures e.g. Health and Safety requirements
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs and inspections
• Manage access control, attendance control, safety, liaison with labour representative and overtime control
• Manage human, physical and financial resources in line with the organisational policies, processes and procedures
TRAINING & KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of workshop procedures, workshop finances and fleet maintenance.
• Knowledge of bus industry, transport legislation and general management
