DEPARTMENTAL MISSION: Responsible for the strategic management of human factors within PRASA Rail Division and thereby ensuring that the operating business targets and objectives are met while the safety of railway operations, personnel and commuters is not compromised.
 
 
OUTPUTS:
Develop a human factors management framework for the integration of human factors into organizational processes
• Develop, review, and maintain human factors management policies, processes, guidelines and procedures in line with current legislative requirements
• Provide direction and drive the integration of human factors into the organization’s safety management system, integrated management system, risk management processes etc.
• Develop detailed operational plans for integrating human factors requirements into business processes
• Conduct internal audits to ensure and promote compliance to human factors policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines etc.
Provide support, guidance and consultative expertise on human factor management
• Provide direction and guidance to the organisation (Operations, Maintenance, Risk And Safety Departments etc.) in terms of human factors approaches and interventions for curbing railway occurrences through:
  • Occurrence investigations methods aimed at determining human factors causal factors
  • Monitoring and analysing human factors related leading and lagging indicators to identify trends
  • Risk management processes for preventing occurrences
  • Research related to occurrence investigations
• Support programs for personnel, passengers/commuters affected by and involved in railway occurrences
• Form part of the RSR formulation that relate to Human Factors and lead implementation of human factor inter-departmental projects
• Conduct human factors training and awareness programs across the organization.
Manage research
• Manage research on pertinent human factors matters with the aim of ensuring that interventions are founded on empirical evidence
• Keep abreast of developments to human factors legislative, statutory requirements as well as best practices
Manage resources
• Manage:
  • Finances (budget forecasting and control)
  • Human resources (training and development; performance management; quality of work etc.)

CAPABILITIES:

Minimum requirements
• MSc Ergonomics/ Human Factors
Ideal:
• PhD IN Ergonomics/Human Factors
Experience:
• Eight (8) years experience in Ergonomics/human factors experience
• Three (3) years Managerial experience
Legal requirement:
• Driver’s License,
• Eligible to register as a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) with the Ergonomics Society of South Africa (ESSA) and Professional Affairs Board (PAB)
Ideal: Registered as a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) with the Ergonomics Society of South Africa (ESSA) and Professional Affairs Board (PAB)
