JOB SUMMARY
Parliament of South Africa is seeking a professional to serve the research needs of Members, the JSCI and its Chairperson, and other Committees and Senior Management of Parliament through pro-active and reactive research, information and analysis on intelligence and related matters. This includes identification, initiation, conduction and co-ordination of research projects, briefing papers, reports etc. and the dissemination of results in a suitable format to empower the committee to fulfil its constitutional mandate. The researcher will play a critical role in information gathering, analysis, report preparation, and briefing development to empower the committee in fulfilling its constitutional mandate. As a researcher you are required to perform objective and factual based empirical and desk-top research. The JSCI support staff often work irregular hours under tight deadlines and under enormous pressure.
 
As a successful candidate your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Proactive and reactive research
  • Data and information analysis
  • Project planning and development
  • Dissemination, presentation of results and storage of information
  • Operational accountabilities
 
To qualify, you must have a minimum of:
  • Appropriate Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) e.g. Political Science, Politics, International Relations, International Politics, Security Studies, Military Science, National Security, Africa and Security Studies, Peace Studies, etc., and 3 Years relevant Research Experience. Service and experience in intelligence and related fields such as law enforcement agencies, Police, Defence and intelligence structures will be an added advantage.
 
Statutory requirements:
This appointment is subject to a Top Secret Security Clearance, and An Oath or Affirmation of Secrecy prior to commencement of employment.

 
You must also demonstrate:
  • Intelligence Services Oversight Act, No. 40 of 1994
  • Rules of the JSCI
  • Sectoral specific knowledge on intelligence and national security
  • An understanding of government processes
  • Research experience
  • Research methods
  • Project Management
  • Parliamentary processes and systems
  • Minimum Information Security Standard
  • Proven knowledge and experience in data sourcing methodologies
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Parliamentary processes and democratic oversight mechanisms
