Nquthu Local Municipality (KZ 242) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position:
Position : Leading Fire Fighter (Re-advertisement)
Salary : Task Grade 10 of the category 1 Municipality, plus Benefits such as Medical Aid, Pension Fund and 13th Cheque
Type of Contract : Permanent
Place of Work : Council Chambers
Key Requirements:
Grade 12 certificate.
Valid motor vehicle drivers licence C1 or above
Firefighter 1/11, Hazmat awareness/operations.
Satisfy Departmental Physical Assessment.
A minimum of 3 years relevant emergency service experience.
Other relevant certificates/qualifications will be an added advantage.
Special Conditions:
This post currently requires the incumbent to work on a 24/7 basis shifts system.
Must be prepared to work at any fire station within the area of the Authority having Jurisdiction, in accordance with departmental transfer policies.
Deals with people under stress.
Performs heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity in confined areas and at elevated temperatures while wearing personal protective clothing and equipment weighing approximately 25 kilograms.
Required to work in hazardous locations at considerable above grade elevations.
Enter structures on fire wearing protective clothing and breathing apparatus and carrying a variety service related tools and equipment.
Faces exposure to infectious agents such as Hepatitis B and HIV.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Attends to the tasks/ activities associated with the fire and emergency services in the Municipality.
Performing all duties as reflected in the Fire-figther Level 1/2 job description.
Driving and operating a range of heavy and extra heavy specialist appliances to/ at emergency incidents as directed by supervisors.
Operating mobile and fixed breathing air compressors as directed by the supervisors to maintain continuous supply of breathing quality air for breathing apparatus operations.
Carrying out specialised operations.
Performs basic level mechanical maintenance on fire service appliances and equipment to ensure operational readiness of such vehicles equipment.
Taking charge of small scale emergency incidents.
Committee meetings, maintaining a safe work environment in the workplace.
Supervises and commands fire-fighters operationally as directed by the supervisors.
Participating in public fire education by delivering prepared lectures as directed by supervisors to promote safety within the communities.
Assists in training of Fire-Fighters in emergency service skills as directed by the supervisor.
Preforming control room duties, ensuring an appropriate fire response.
Assumes responsibility for the Station Commander in the absence of the incumbent of this post, maintaining operational efficiency.
Undertaking related assignments consistent with this level of responsibility.
