SPORT, RECREATION, ARTS AND CULTURE DIRECTORATE
SENIOR LIBRARIAN
(LIBRARIES)
POSITION CODE: 220286
TASK Grade 12 (R443 436 – R616 524 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits) 
 
Qualifications and experience required:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Computer literacy in Office applications.
  • Valid Code EB driver’s licence preferred.
  • In-depth understanding, knowledge and application of principles, acceptable practices and procedures.
  • Three to four years’ experience in a library environment.
 
Key attributes and competencies:

  • Supervisory and report-writing skills.
  • Physically fit and able-bodied.
 
As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.
 
Job purpose:
  • Coordinating tasks/activities associated with the Branch Library and monitoring the implementation of procedural sequences/requirements associated with aligning standards to meet customer objectives.
  • Attending the acquisition, organisation of information and, interacting and providing users with information from various media, creating an environment conducive to learning through the arrangement of displays and signage of new library materials.
  • Attends to administrative reporting and record updating requirements.
 
 
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.

Qualifications and experience required:
  • Cash register experience is essential.
  • Working with the public is essential.
  • Grade 10.
  • Good communication skills in English and/or isiXhosa.
  • Willingness to undergo the NMBM interview process.
  • Applicants may be deployed at the discretion of management.
  • Incumbents must be of sober habits, honest and hardworking.
