ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (TWO POSITIONS)
(TECHNICAL DIVISION – COMMUNICATION SECTION)
POSITION CODE: 230355
TASK Grade 11 (R415 140 – R577 200 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
 
Qualification and experience required:
  • National Diploma (Electrical Engineering) (LC)
  • Registered with ECSA
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.
  • Three years’ relevant experience.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Sight, speech, and hearing ability – colour vision is required to recognise colours on High Voltage live electrical installations and communication circuitry – must be formally tested.
  • Ability to meet frequent unforeseen deadlines and interruptions in the job (tasks often need to be reprioritised due to electronic breakdowns occurring, deadlines having to be met, and unexpected delays being experienced due to human tampering with communications infrastructure).
  • Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot – required to carry equipment of 5 – 20 kg and climbing onto switchgear or structures.
  • Must work overtime and render standby duty.
  • Work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Administrative and report-writing skills.
The successful candidates will be required to perform standby duties. He/she will be required to use their own private vehicle for official duties for which the relevant locomotion allowance will be paid.
As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.
 
Job purpose:
Planning, configuring, installing, commissioning, and maintaining the general industrial communication network of the Municipality’s electrical power system, including technical security, telephony and ancillary systems relating to the High Voltage distribution network.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
