SAFETY AND SECURITY DIRECTORATE
DEPUTY CHIEF: OPERATIONS
(METRO POLICE)
POSITION CODE: 220261
TASK GRADE 17 (R764 244 – R1 062 504 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
Qualifications and experience required:
- A degree in Policing or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management.
- Metro Police Officer Diploma.
- Registered Traffic Officer.
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.
- Five years and more experience in managing a medium to large policing facility.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Planning, organising and management skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Skilled in project management.
- Report writing and presentation skills.
- Facilitation and team building skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Knowledge of relevant national legislation and Council’s policies (Firearms Control Act, Police Amendment Act, etc.).
- Good financial management.
Physical/ mental conditions associated with the position:
- The incumbent should be physically fit and able-bodied.
Special conditions attached to the position:
- Required to be on stand-by and work overtime during specific unplanned emergencies.
Job purpose:
To lead, manage and co-ordinate central operations within the NMBM regarding the provision of traffic enforcement, by-law enforcement, crime prevention, tactical service, and social crime prevention to drive service delivery through development of applicable strategies, plans and policies.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.

INSPECTOR 2020
(METRO POLICE)

TASK GRADE 13 (R475 860 – R661 584 per annum)

Qualifications and experience required:
- A relevant NQF5 qualification and National Diploma in Municipal Policing (three-year qualification) or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management (three-year qualification) or equivalent Policing qualification; AND
- All requirements applicable to be appointed as a Municipal Police Member in terms of Regulation 11 of Regulations for Municipal Police Services, 1999.
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.
- Minimum of five years’ relevant experience in a policing law enforcement environment and a working knowledge of all relevant statutory legislation, police regulations, standing orders, etc.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- High level of alertness.
- Safety awareness and quick to respond when and where required.
Physical/mental conditions associated with the position:

Job purpose:
The effective execution of all activities, operations and interventions related to Policing, in order to ensure delivery of effective and efficient shifts during the execution of operational duties in relation to by-law enforcement, traffic policing and crime prevention functions within the NMBM area by taking charge of operational shifts during the execution of operational duties.
