Qualifications and experience required:
  • B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist.
  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.
  • Government Certificate of Competence.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot – is required to occasionally climb ladders or high mast poles and to lift and carry equipment weighting in excess of 20 kg.
  • Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions. The job is performed on or near live electricity cables and equipment and in confined areas such as switchyards and enclosed substations.
  • Work is performed under pressure e.g. during power failures and under conditions of considerable interruptions, conflicting deadlines and urgent/critical/essential unforeseen issues requiring immediate attention to avoid costly delays or repercussions, causing a high level of time stress. Predetermined deadlines must be adhered to in respect of payroll matters, for example payment of overtime, allowances, etc. Must work overtime and render standby duties.
  • Decision-making involving risk is required as incorrect decisions, e.g. during switching operations, could jeopardise safety to staff, plant and equipment.
  • Sight, speech, and hearing ability (eye test for colour blindness is required).
  • Good communication and administration skills.
  • Management, supervisory, negotiation and financial management skills.
 
Job purpose:
Responsible for managing, supervising, coordinating, and controlling the installation and maintenance of lighting, underground cables, bundle conductor, transformers, substations, overhead lines, buildings, civil works, and associated equipment, and providing technical support and advice to all Depots including the Transmission Maintenance Division in order to ensure a high standard of service delivery. To contribute towards and achieve the strategic objectives of the IDP process by designing, providing and maintaining electrical infrastructure.

Qualifications and experience required:
  • B Degree/B-Tech in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional registration with ECSA as a Technologist.
  • A valid Code B, C or EC driver’s licence.

Job purpose:
Co-ordinating the division’s operation and maintenance of the water and reclaimed effluent distribution system in keeping with the Municipal Structures Act, Water Services Act and Water Supply By-Law, inclusive of developing and implementing procedures, establishing resource requirements, planning and directing work/maintenance programmes and attending to specific administrative and information reporting requirements and processes in order to ensure efficient and cost-effective service delivery within a region.
Coordinating and controlling the technical operations of the water services system through the application of laid down technical procedures with respect to the monitoring and checking of performance and water system operations, maintenance and repair interventions in order to ensure optimum functionality levels are maintained and downtime and disruptions to services are minimised.

Qualifications and experience required:
  • A relevant NQF5 qualification and National Diploma in Municipal Policing (three-year qualification) or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management (three-year qualification) or Equivalent Policing qualification; AND
  • All requirements applicable to be appointed as a Municipal Police member in terms of Regulation 11 of Regulations for Municipal Police Services, 1999.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.
  • Minimum of four years’ relevant experience in a municipal policing or similar environment.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical/mental conditions associated with the position:
