SUPERINTENDENT
(RETAIL & COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT)
POSITION CODE: 250534
TASK Grade 11 (R433 824 – R603 180 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
 
Qualifications and experience required:
  • Qualified Artisan (Electrical Engineering).
  • Three to four years’ relevant experience.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Must be physically fit, healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot.
  • Weights or loads of between 5kg and 20kg must be lifted or carried.
  • Drives to visit sites and domestic or business customers and other relevant parties.
 
Special conditions attached to the position:
  • Registered as an Installation Electrician.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel).
  • Must have own vehicle and a valid Code B driver’s license. A locomotion allowance will be paid in terms of the relevant policy.
The successful candidates shall be required to perform standby duties and shall work overtime. As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality's Occupational Health and Safety Division.
 
Job purpose:
To supervise the activities of subordinate staff and contractors to ensure that electrical metering is correctly applied, and consumption metered.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.

ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE
ENGINEERING ARTISAN: ELECTRICAL

TASK Grade 10 (R385 404 – R535 812 per annum)

Qualifications and experience required:
  • Qualified Electrician (Electrical Engineering).
  • Two years’ relevant experience.
  • Code B driver's licensece.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Must be able to cope with mental stress which arise from potential or actual physical threat - actual threat due to working in presence of live high voltages; potential threat because of often working in an environment where explosion of switchgear can occur and high-risk residential areas.
  • Other factors inherent to the post that are mentally stressful pertain to tripping an incorrect breaker which can lead to electricity shutdowns with financial loss for the Municipality and commercial consumers.
  • Being exposed to extreme weather conditions and varying temperatures are physically stressful.
  • Having to work overtime and standby duty are inherent to the post.
  • Ability to meet frequent pre-determined deadlines and interruptions in the job — a MV fault will take priority over other functions.
  • Must be able to perform manual operations and duties on foot.
  • Good sight, speech and hearing ability (may not be colour blind - interpreting colour wiring codes and plant status indication are required).

Responsible for the performing and supervision of the pilot cable network testing and repairs and of fault finding on MV power cables of the Municipality's electricity network for the purposes of providing a sustainable electrical supply to the industrial, commercial and domestic community in the municipal area.

The successful candidates will be required to perform standby duties. He/she will be required to use own private vehicle for official duties for which the relevant locomotion allowance will be paid.
