ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE
ARTISAN: ELECTRICAL
(DISTRIBUTION: DESPATCH)
POSITION CODE: 250632
TASK Grade 10 (R410 784 – R571 104 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
 
Qualifications and experience required:
  • Qualified Electrical Engineering Artisan.
  • One-year relevant experience.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot - is required to climb a ladder, work in confined spaces and at elevated distances and to lift and carry lightweight equipment.
  • Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to meet occasional unforeseen deadlines and to work under pressure during cable faults which need to be restored within limited time. Must work overtime and render standby duties.
  • Sight, speech and hearing ability (test for colour blindness is required).
 
Special conditions attached to the position:
  • Must have your own vehicle and a valid Code C1 driver’s licence including PDP. A locomotion allowance will be paid in terms of the relevant policy.
  • The physical attributes associated with this post necessitates that the incumbent is physically fit and able-bodied to perform the relevant functions, and as such, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit themselves to the Municipal Medical Doctor to be medically examined as part of the selection process.
  • The successful candidate will be required to perform standby duties.
 
Job purpose:
To supervise maintenance, installation and repair of electrical infrastructure (street lighting and overheads).
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
 
Fringe benefits will include membership of a Retirement Fund, Medical Aid Scheme, Group Life Assurance Scheme, participation in a Housing Subsidy and Car Schemes (subject to the conditions of the various Schemes), and normal leave and sick leave benefits.

HUMAN SETTLEMENTS DIRECTORATE 
SENIOR ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST (LAND SURVEYING)
(DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT)
POSITION CODE: 250603
TASK Grade 13 (R586 008 – R814 716 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
 
Qualifications and experience required:
  • National Diploma in Surveying, or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered as a Survey Technician.
  • Computer literacy – Office applications including CAD and Cartographic experience.
  • A valid Code EB driver’s licence.
  • Two to four years’ end-user database post-registration experience.
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.
  • Analytical, technical and communication skills in assessing, understanding and delivering business requirements.
  • Good report-writing skills.
  • Good organisational, problem-solving, and supervisory skills.
 
The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Conducting and reporting on various Cadastral Surveys (surveys where property rights are affected) in accordance with the Surveys Act and Regulations.
  • Conducting photo control surveys of large scale ortho photo mapping and deformation surveys of dams.
  • Translating and calculating Town Planning layouts to General Plans (plans used in Deeds Office for the transfer of individual land) and the generation of survey coordinates.
  • Generating coordinates in the pegging/surveying of related projects.
 
Supervision:
  • Providing guidance to personnel on operational procedures.
  • Resolving/minimising staff conflicts and addressing deviations in performance levels from agreed standards through the application of specific Human Resources procedures regulating working conditions.
  • Monitoring that safety requirements are adhered to in terms of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, during inspections.

Coordinating tasks/activities associated with the operation and maintenance of all Cadastral Surveys including Photographical/Hydrographical/Trigonometrical/Deformation and Contour surveys; producing a variety of data visualisation, spatial management maps, presentation of information using database procedures, applications and tools to ensure that the surveys provides comprehensive and complete information supporting analysis, queries and decision-making processes.
