ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE

Qualification and experience required:
- Trade Test Certificate or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Computer literacy: MS Office.

- Five years or more experience in a supervisory technical position required.
Key attributes associated with the position:
- Ability to meet occasional unforeseen deadlines and to work under pressure during power failures and interruptions which need to be restored within limited time. Predetermined deadlines must be adhered to in respect of payroll matters, for example details regarding the payment of overtime, allowances, etc. must reach the Budget and Treasury Unit by the 7th of each month. Must work overtime and render standby duties.
- Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot - is required to handle equipment weighing over 20 kg when carrying out switching operations. It is also occasionally required to climb a ladder or high mast poles, crawl in confined spaces or at elevated distances when carrying out inspections or verifying work.
- Sight, speech and hearing ability (eye test for colour blindness is required).
Summary of the key duties:
- Performs coordination and supervisory duties as Senior Superintendent.
- Controls the Depot's functions regarding electricity and energy requirements including substation, overheads, underground main and illumination activities.
- Plans and co-ordinates the Depot's functions and resolves engineering, technical and administrative problems related to specific job functions within scope of expertise.
- Controls and co-ordinates an annual repair and maintenance plan for street and area overhead lines, cables and substation installations and ensures contractor compliance with contract agreements, maintenance standards and specifications as prescribed, inclusive of replacement of obsolete equipment.
- Controls the maintenance of power transformers using a maintenance program and relevant manuals.
The physical attributes associated with this post necessitates that the incumbent is physically fit and able-bodied to perform the relevant functions, and as such, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit themselves to the Municipal Medical Doctor to be medically examined as part of the selection process.
Job purpose:
Responsible for managing, supervising, co-ordinating and controlling the activities of one of the following Electricity & Energy BU Depots [South, North, Motherwell, Uitenhage, West and Despatch] to ensure the continuity of electricity supply and safe, optimal use of resources.

Job purpose:
The Infrastructure and Engineering Directorate is responsible for the management of the delivery of all major municipal services (excluding electricity) and the maintenance of such services within the jurisdiction of the Municipality. These include sewage disposal systems, water reclamation works, stormwater management and disposal networks and scientific services.
The successful candidate will form part of the Management Team of the municipal administration, reporting to and being accountable to the City Manager in terms of the policy and legislative framework of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Job purpose:
Managing the key performance and result indicators associated with Risk and Asset Management Division through the implementation of laid down policies and procedures, dictating reporting and recording requirements of assets and inventory control, providing input into longer term objective setting and planning sequences and directing and executing procedures and processes associated with controlling/investigating Council's Insurance portfolio. Identifying and defining current as well as emerging business, financial and operational risks, identifying appropriate and cost-effective methods of managing these risks within the organisation, and managing the processing, payment and administration of occupational injuries and diseases claims in terms of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.

Qualifications and experience required:
- Diploma in Information Technology/relevant professional ICT qualification.
- Appropriate one to two years’ relevant experience.
- Advanced computer literacy.
- Physically fit and able-bodied.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Able to articulate basic concepts and knowledge to aspects within IT discipline.
- Ability to identify faults and undertake minor maintenance on hardware.
- Ability to install and set up devices such as dumb terminals and barcode scanners.
- Ability to produce statistical reports.
- Ability to maintain an inventory register of all computer equipment.
- Able to support internal and external communications process for business change management programs and projects.
- Ability to understand the key drivers in the sector and municipality.
