EXTERNAL IT STEERING COMMITTEE MEMBER X2
Overview of the Organisation:
The National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) is a type 3A entity and agency of the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (the dtic). It is South Africa's highest authority on measurement, tasked with developing and maintaining the national measurement standards and providing measurement solutions and confidence in measurement accuracy that underpin South Africa's economic prosperity, trade and quality of life. NMISA is seeking to appoint a candidate to serve in the entity’s Information Technology Steering Committee (ITSC) under the category of External Member with Appropriate Expertise.
Purpose Statement of the Position:
The external ITSC is appointed to the Committee primarily to provide oversight and guidance on Information Technology matters in line with best practices and standards, taking into consideration the Measurement Unit and Measurement Standards Act and other legal requirements.
Reporting to:
The Audit and Risk Committee through the Chairperson of ITSC.
Requirements:
- Post Graduate Qualification
- Professional Certificates in the IT Environment
- IT project implementation expertise
- 10 years’ experience or more in IT related roles at Senior Management level
- Proven experience in developing and evaluating IT strategies
- Proven experience in influencing the implementation of executive strategies
- A track record in sound monitoring and evaluation processes
Responsibilities
- To ensure alignment between the IT strategy, the legislative framework and the industry best practices.
- Give input into the NMISA IT Strategy to ensure alignment to the legislative framework and the industry best practices.
- Review the current IT Governance framework to ensure compliance and fit for purpose.
- Give input into IT projects and/or initiate projects to ensure maximum ROI and evaluate progress reports.
- Review current Policies and give input into new Policies to ensure compliance and relevance.
- Enable IT to add value to the business and mitigate risks.
- Perform continual risk assessments and consider appropriate risk responses.
- Give input to Organisational structure, relationships, frameworks and processes
Commitment:
The role of the external member requires a significant time commitment that includes attendance at all committee meetings and relevant strategy sessions, as well as preparatory work. Four (4) meetings are scheduled per year (January, April, July and October).
Term:
The initial appointment will be for a term of three years, with the possibility of re-election based on performance and the needs of the ARC. The appointment is also subject to an annual performance evaluation to ensure continued alignment with the company’s objectives.

Remuneration:
ITSC members are remunerated for attending meetings in accordance with National Treasury rates.
