AIRCON AND FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Salary Range R406 553.90 – R478 299.67 per annum (all inclusive)
The NMISA is a Type 3A Public Entity established in accordance with the Measurement Unit and Measurement Standards Act, No. 18 of 2006 (the Act). The NMISA is mandated by the Act to provide for the use of the international system of units (the SI) and other measurement units in South Africa, to maintain national measurement standards (NMS) and to determine and ensure the comparability of the NMS. Purpose Of the Role
To ensure the continued effective functioning of all the air conditioning, facilities and related equipment within NMISA, thereby contributing to the smooth functioning of all NMISA laboratories
Minimum Requirements, Skills and Experience
- N4 or higher Technical Certificate with 5years post apprenticeship experience.
- Recognised Trade Certification Aircon, Electrical, Mechanical, Millwright
- Be skilled in the fault finding, operations and repairs of all related site installations
- Be knowledgeable on all basic refrigeration principles
- Be knowledgeable on diverse installations
- To be tolerant and understanding with a demanding client base
- Must understand and accommodate where possible the client’s needs
- Must be able to work on standby, attending to emergency callouts.
- Basic computer skills
- Driver’s License
- Basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993 in relation to Facilities and Construction Regulations promulgated under the Act
Duties and Responsibilities:
- General maintenance of Facilities and repair of all air conditioning and related equipment, ensuring that the specific environmental conditions for all the different laboratories are met on a continued basis
- Performance of preventative maintenance tasks, identified during routine inspections or according to maintenance registers, to ensure the optimal performance of all the air conditioning and related equipment.
- Performing routine inspections according to the maintenance registers
- Fault finding and repair of all air conditioning and other facilities related equipment.
- Keeping of maintenance registers, for all compressors, chillers, air handlers and humidifiers
- The sub-contracting of repair and maintenance work, as needed and approved by management, to competent contractors
- The management of external contractors and the signing-off (verify that work was done professionally and according to the procurement order) of completed work
- Attend to all emergency callouts, as informed by the CSIR Call Centre (control room).
- Keep current on changing and evolving air conditioner trends and technologies
- Advise NMISA sections on technical specifications of air-conditioning units and/ or other Facilities related equipment; and participate in Bid Specification Committees – including conducting site briefings.
- Contractor Management – Supervise contractors and enforce campus rules together with Construction Regulations that bind contractors doing work onsite.
- Evaluation of work done by contractors – Ensure that work done by contractors meet specifications and advise where there are deviations
Person Specification:
We are looking for a dynamic, positive thinking individual, who can manage complexity, have planning and organising skills, is resilient and customer service orientated. A unique individual with leadership and interpersonal skills who can communicate at all levels and develop a strong team. Excellent writing skills and fluency in English. The candidate must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
The position further requires professionalism when dealing with customers and colleagues, plus a level of excellence that goes above and beyond the commercial considerations and legal requirements.
