The National Library of South Africa wishes to make the following appointment at its Cape Town Campus
VALUATOR
On a 3-month short term contract
Salary package to be negotiated

The objectives of the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) are to contribute to socio-economic, cultural, educational, scientific and innovative development by collecting, recording, preserving and making available the national documentary heritage and promoting an awareness and appreciation thereof, by fostering information literacy, and by facilitating access to the world’s information resources.
The NLSA invites applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment on a contract basis. The successful candidate will be based at the Cape Town Campus and report to the Manager: Documentary Heritage Assets.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
⚫ Diploma/Degree in Appraisal Studies and/or evaluation of heritage assets
⚫ Preferably a member of a recognised body/association of appraisers relevant to heritage assets
⚫ Minimum of 5 years of experience in valuations of heritage collections
⚫ Minimum of 5 years of experience in assisting entities with GRAP 103 compliance in relation to valuations of collections
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
⚫ Identification and classification of the NLSA collections in terms of the various GRAP accounting standards.
⚫ Drafting and presenting a valuation methodology with supporting evidence on why collections have qualified heritage assets with supporting evidence.
⚫ Determine the fair values of assets held at the NLSA in accordance with GRAP 103 accounting standards.
⚫ Provide supporting evidence on how the fair values were determined and ensure that it is audit compliant.
⚫ Work with the custodians of the collections.
⚫ Assist with audit queries emanating from valuations provided. 2
⚫ Provide any additional information required by the auditors on fair values provided even after the valuation has been completed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
⚫ Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively with internal staff at all levels
⚫ Ability to work independently and deliver work within agreed timeframes
⚫ Effective problem-solving skills
⚫ Excellent computer proficiency in a Windows environment and other Office applications
⚫ Knowledge of an Integrated Library Management System
⚫ Sound judgement and the ability to solve problems
⚫ Accuracy and attention to detail
⚫ Ability and willingness to learn new skills
⚫ Ability to work successfully under sustained pressure and should be able to creatively and positively respond to challenges
