The National Library of South Africa wishes to make the following appointment at its Pretoria Campus:
CONTENT AND MEDIA SPECIALIST
Reference Number: 03/04/2023
Salary scale: R 653 810.00 - R 763 301.00 Total Cost-to-Company
The objectives of the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) are to contribute to socioeconomic, cultural, educational, scientific, and innovative development by collecting, recording, preserving, and making available the national documentary heritage and promoting an awareness and appreciation thereof, by fostering information literacy, and by facilitating access to the world’s information resources. The NLSA employs approximately 200 employees.
We are inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment on permanent basis. The successful candidate will report to the Director: Communications, Marketing and Stakeholder Relations.
The Content and Media Specialist is accountable for conceptualising, developing, editing, distributing, filing, and managing all strategic content produced for, and related to, the NLSA.
The Content and Media Specialist is the custodian of the NLSA’s media relations.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Develop strategies, techniques, and new platforms for the function
• Create content strategies for the organisation.
• Collaborate with other Departments and team members to brainstorm topics for creative content.
• Create unique, simple-to-understand, and user-friendly content using good SEO techniques.
• Investigate, conceptualise and/or implement new platforms (internal and external) and opportunities for sharing content to promote the NLSA.
Content development and management
• Create and publish engaging content.
• Write and edit new content for the NLSA’s platforms.
• Edit and proofread new content before publication.
• Manage the development of NLSA’s publications e.g. newsletters, Annual Report, Strategic Plans, etc.
• Research and develop speaking notes as needed.
• Manage the distribution of content through our various channels, including social media and website.
• Analyse performance indicators; web, and social media traffic, and determine the effectiveness of created content.
• Write creative and unique content as well as come up with innovative ideas for content development.
• Write technical content for NLSA’s products and services.
• Oversee the sharing of content across various Departments.
• Stay up-to-date with various methods to create engaging and attractive content.
Quality assurance
• Edit and proofread content before it is published on-line or disseminated.
• Increase the value of the NLSA’s web presence.
• Perform background research as needed.
• Follow in-house formatting standards and the editorial style guide.
Monitoring and compliance
• Ensure compliance with law (e.g. copyright and data protection).
• Liaise with content writers to ensure brand consistency.
• Use content management systems to analyse website traffic and user engagement metrics.
• Stay up-to-date with developments and generate new ideas to draw audience’s attention.
• Harvest social media feedback and enquiries, pass them on to the relevant Department(s) and follow up to ensure successful resolution.
Media relations
• Develop strategies to successfully build relationships with media and ensure a positive representation of the NLSA brand.
• Understand the organisation’s strengths, weaknesses, and objectives to create a tailored media relation strategy.
• Develop and maintain the NLSA’s media database.
• Work closely with the Communications team to tactically co-ordinate media efforts and public events.
• Cultivate and manage relationships with reporters, journalists, and key influencers and arrange for them to cover company events and conferences.
• Create targeted media lists, arrange regular meetings, and press briefings between the organisation, stakeholders and leading journalists.
• Write and distribute press materials.
• Work with our Communications Officers to increase awareness, engagement and drive traffic to the NLSA’s communications platforms.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• A minimum NQF level 7 qualification in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
• Five years of experience as a content creator, copywriter or similar role.
• Demonstratable experience in media relations.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

We are inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment in the position of Graphic Designer on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will report to the Director: Communications, Marketing and Stakeholder Relations
The Graphic Designer is accountable for ownership of all design requirements for the National Library of South Africa (NLSA); ensuring that all communications and marketing collateral including print, web, and digital collateral is designed and delivered to agreed standards and deadlines from concept to fruition.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Be the custodian of the NLSA brand with active input into the evolution of the brand.
• Design marketing collateral from concept through to the finished product and all intermediate stages.
• Design strategic documents from concept to print ready artwork.
• Visualisation and mock ups – produce graphic and physical examples of collateral.
• Undertake advertising and promotional design for digital, print and promotional collateral from concept to production ready artwork.
• Undertake and edit photography for use in marketing collateral.
• Proofing of collateral (colour, standard and presentation) prior to print.
• Manage approvals of licensed artwork.
• Manage and maintain the in–house image library.
• Maintain the Corporate Identity Manual ensuring that it is effectively implemented.
• Work with the Communications and Marketing, and other, teams to supply marketing material, both printed and digital.
• Printing procurement – source providers and maintain up-to-date knowledge of prices, materials, processes and deadlines/delivery, as required.
• Manage and deliver of ad hoc design related projects.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• A minimum NQF level 7 qualification in Graphic Design or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
• Three years of design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm.
