NATIONAL ENERGY REGULATOR (NERSA)
The National Energy Regulator (NERSA) is a regulatory authority established as a juristic person in terms of Section 3 of the National Energy Regulator Act, 2004 (Act No. 40 of 2004). NERSA’s mandate is to regulate the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipeline industries in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act, 2006 (Act No. 4 of 2006), Gas Act, 2001 (Act No. 48 of 2001) and Petroleum Pipelines Act, 2003 (Act No. 60 of 2003). The structure of the Energy Regulator consists of nine members, five of whom are part-time and four are full-time, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Energy Regulator is supported by a secretariat under the direction of the CEO. The Energy Regulator wishes to recruit personnel with appropriate competencies in the following area:
Legal Advisor (2 positions)
Department: Legal Advisory Services (LAS)
Package: R711 751.00 – R976 002.00 per annum (CTC)

Requirements: * An LLB Degree and an admission as an Attorney/Advocate * Minimum Five (5) years’ post admission legal experience in a corporate or legal practicing environment.
The candidate must be competent in the following: * Analytical Skills * Communication (verbal and written) Skills * Interpersonal Skills * Presentation Skills * Drafting Skills * Negotiation Skills * Computer Skills * Report Writing Skills * Problem solving Skills * Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management Skills.
Purpose: Reporting to the Head of Department: Legal Advisory Services, the incumbent will provide legal services to NERSA, by analyzing clients’ needs and providing sound legal advice according the latest case law and applicable laws.
Key responsibilities: the successful incumbent will * Advise on Labour related matters * Drafting, reviewing and vetting of contracts * Litigation management inclusive of appointment and briefing of Attorneys and/or Advocates in litigation matters and to monitor the processes thereto * Assist the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy with the formulation of legislation and regulations that have an impact on NERSA and the Energy industry * Monitor NERSA policies compliance with the laws * Training of staff on laws applicable to the industry to ensure a high level of adherence and compliance to legal aspects related to the industry * Assist in the dispute resolution (Mediation and/or arbitration) between licensees and customers and licensees themselves * Attend to expropriation applications * Provide legal support to NERSA Departments * Attend to legal matters affecting NERSA * Provide legal opinions and interpretation on new legislation and existing legislation * Provide support to the HOD: Legal Advisory Services.
