Introduction
We are currently hiring an Investment Analyst to join the Umnotho Fund team on a 6 months fixed-term contract. The key purpose of this role is to provide support function to Investment Associates on all areas of transaction execution.

Job description
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT / TRANSACTION ORIGINATION 
  1. Supports business development initiatives. Develop and maintain client network and relationships
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with industry peers; 
  3. Passively interact with BEE groups, intermediaries, lending institutions, and other stakeholders; 
  4. Actively participate in business development initiatives at the request of the Fund Manager and/or Divisional Executive; 
  5. Contribute to the development of a business development strategy; 
  6. Start to build networks within the financial and BEE market with peers, leveraging the NEF’s development status; 
  7. Actively participate in deal forums in order to build reputation as an acknowledged analyst; 
 
TRANSACTION ANALYSIS 
  1. Apply standard investment analysis (under the advice / assistance of senior team members) on deal structuring techniques, market analysis and valuation principles 
  2. Provide comprehensive financial analysis using approved financial modelling tools to the Deal Team on transactions presented to the NEF; 
  3. Analyse, compile and report on market information on a deal-by-deal basis; 
  4. Provide comprehensive valuation analysis on all transactions in order to mitigate risks to the NEF and the parties it supports by using industry best practice in valuation analysis; 
  5. Mobilise, coordinate and guide internal and external resources to appraise deals / applications; 
  6. Leverage relationships within the industry to create on-going industry analysis inflow from other institutions;
  7. Manage and influence internal decision–making and project process to obtain investment approval; 
  8. Develop a broad knowledge (of corporate finance / private equity macro environment, sector, and other specific transaction dynamics) to support the team in identifying and recommending appropriate mitigation measures on key risk issues; 
  9. Partake in due diligence exercises at the request of the senior deal team member, using approved processes and principles as outlined in the due diligence scope; 
  10. Provide commentary on innovative / optimum / appropriate finance and legal structures for each investment deal ensuring long term sustainability / viability of the project to the benefit of the client and the NEF.
 
Minimum requirements
Qualification Requirements
  • Graduate degree at least, preferably a BCom, CA(SA), CFA or equivalent
Experience / Skills Required
  • 2 – 5 years Financial modelling and analysis experience; 
  • A generalist in corporate finance with experience in private equity; 
  • An expert Analyst demonstrating a good to high command of the abilities required to perform the role. 
  • Understanding of NEF mandate and investment guidelines; 
  • Possess good analytical and modelling skills.
