AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIST: TRADE RESEARCH 
Salary Negotiable 
Reporting to Manager: Trade Research Unit 
Based: Pretoria

Qualifications & Experience: 
Candidate must have at least a bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics or an equivalent qualification. A Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics will be an added advantage. 2-4 years of experience in agricultural trade and/or market research. Knowledge of the MAP Act will be an added advantage. The candidate must be willing to travel. 
 
Skills & Knowledge: 
Knowledge and understanding of South Africa’s trade policies and commitments to the World Trade Organization. Understanding of agricultural food sectors and knowledge of the international trade databases. Ability to source, process and analyze trade data and trends. Advanced research and analysis skills, Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to work independently and under pressure, Stakeholder management, Presentation and facilitation skills 
 
The successful candidate will be expected to amongst others 
• Conduct effective and timely research in the agricultural trade and marketing field; 
• Conduct trend analysis in trade, market and economics fields; 
• Analyze and advice on agricultural trade and marketing policies and strategies;
• Compile and publish research reports, journal and/or conference articles, and policy advisory briefs; 
• Coordinate and liaise with relevant stakeholders to gather data and information pertaining to agricultural trade and markets; 
• Represent the Markets and Economic Research Centre (MERC) in strategic agricultural trade forums; 
• Provide management support to specific research projects/programmes within the MERC and NAMC 
• Submit reports and submissions within the prescribed deadline.
