NOTICE
 
INVITATION TO SERVE ON A PUBLIC TRANSPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
 
The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (the Department) hereby invite applications from suitable qualified and interested persons (individuals not entities), from the following fields: Transport Management / Economics, Legal, Religious background, mediation and negotiation skills to serve on its Public Transport Advisory Committee for a period of six (6) months.
 
Requirements: Applicants must: Have strong background and appropriate experience in their respective fields of expertise – Be independent, impartial and demonstrate prior experience of serving on similar committees – Display highest level of integrity and objectivity – Not be a political office bearer - Have the best interest of the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport at heart and share the enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference in the public transport industry.
 
Responsibilities: The roles and responsibilities of the Public
Transport Advisory Committee shall be as follows:
  • Give advice on the legal acceptability of the taxi indaba resolutions when measured against applicable legal prescripts.
  • Analyze historical and the current status of unity within the taxi industry with a view to finding workable and lasting solutions to the ongoing disputes in order to bring stability.
  • Engage stakeholders and key role players within the taxi industry as a means of forging relationships that support unity within the taxi industry.
  • Explore and give guidance on various options and modalities on how the taxi industry could be unified under a single body.
  • Provide a long term strategic direction on how unity in the industry could be maintained within the democratic confines.
  • Advise the Department on the design for an immediate, short, medium and long-term implementation plan.
  • Advise the Department on appropriate tools to be put in place for implementation and monitoring including incentives or punitive measures for non-compliance.
  • Draft a report on findings and recommendations regarding unity and leadership within the taxi industry.
 
Remuneration: The Members of the Public Transport Advisory Committee will be remunerated in accordance with the provisions of Treasury Regulation 20, issued in terms of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act No 1 of 1999).
