HUMAN RESOURCES DIVISION
 
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
  • Responsible for recruitment process administration 
  • Responsible for the entire recruitment process of junior positions 
  • Send, receive and record employment applications and ensure that they are complete
  • Assist division to provide an effective service in relation to pre-interview screening, testing and assessment
  • Ensure all candidates are legally compliant i.e. have the right to work in RSA
  • Support HRBP's by conducting and facilitating pre and post interview briefings/feedback
  • Ensure all interview feedback is recorded and relayed to the relevant parties
  • Administer competency/psychometric assessments as appropriate
  • Conduct reference checks
  • Pre-screen applicants and arrange interviewing panel and schedule the interviews for HRBPs
  • Timely and efficient completion of all recruitment and new joiner documentation including employment contracts
  • Organise pre-employment occupational health assessments
  • Provide support and advice to staff as appropriate
  • Demonstrate through behaviour the values and vision of Mintek
 
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience within HR Operations in an HR Administrator role will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of and a good understanding of various labour legislation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, knowledge of SAP HR will be an added advantage
  • Competent knowledge of current trends and best practices in human resources management
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  B.Com Hons/B Admin Hons in HR / Industrial Psychology or equivalent (preferred)
  •  Ideal: Masters

Mintek is seeking a graduate engineer to conduct research into advanced control systems and optimisation strategies for minerals processing and metallurgical plants. This individual will contribute to the development of world-leading advanced process control solutions that are deployed in the industry, both in South Africa and globally.
 
Job description
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
 
  •         Conduct research into advanced process control solutions, including modelling complex processes.
  •         Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialization;
  •         Play a support role in research projects and the development of products from that research;
  •         Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget;
  •         Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency;
  •         Actively participate in training, guidance and motivation supplied to junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical discussions;
  •         Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences;
  •         Conceptualise, design, execute, analyse and troubleshoot with guidance from senior personnel;
  •         Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division’s interests
 
Minimum requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Engineer: B.Eng. Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical, or B.Sc Honours in an applicable field, e.g. physics or applied mathematics. Candidates must be willing to study further towards an M.Eng/M.Sc and PhD in a field aligned with Mintek’s research. An M.Sc or PhD in a field related to this post is preferred.
  • Must be familiar with MATLAB or Python (prototyping of algorithms)
  • The following skills/knowledge will be advantageous:
  • Computer programming in C , C# or VB.NET
  • Numerical analysis, solving differential equations
  • Modelling of complex systems including mechanical, chemical and/or thermodynamic aspects.

Introduction
Mintek is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Chemical Engineer to join the Nanominerals Unit within the Nanotechnology Group. The position entails the development of technologies for health, wastewater treatments and biosensors. Using her/his skill set, the candidate will work with the team to conduct technology and product development activities as well as up-scaling of materials synthesis in support of commercialization of new products for application in health, wastewater treatments and biosensors.
 
Job description
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
  • Contribute to the innovation outputs (i.e. technologies, prototypes, products, and patents) of the Division.
  • Conduct technology and product development for application in health, sensors and wastewater treatment. The tasks include (but not limited to) reaction process designing and engineering, scaling-up, techno economic evaluations, prototype designing and validation processes.
  • Plan methodology, equipment, material requirements and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing products and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.
  • Analyse the root cause of a wide variety of failures related to issues arising in product development and validation processes.
  • Identify inefficiencies in scale-up of processes, develop and implement process and product improvement measures.
  • Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives.
  • Engage with industry and identify needs of clients, assist in identifying opportunities for technology development and commercialization.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of subordinate staff, to ensure that service of a high standard is rendered at full cost recovery.
  • Provide technical and practical guidance in the execution of experiments.
  • Must stay up to date and informed at an expert technical level with technology and business in the areas of the Division’s work.
  • Ensure continuous growth and the provision of specialised training of junior staff to ensure that the professional skills are acquired to develop, deliver and support advanced water treatment products and technologies.
  • Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.
 
Minimum requirements
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years' experience in research and development of chemical process engineering is a requirement.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in nanomaterials synthesis, chemical process design and product development.
  • Systems thinking approach, design thinking and incorporating sustainability elements in product and process development
  • Willingness to study, grow and be an expert in the field.
  • Team player who enjoys variation in tasks and has a passion for chemical  processing.
  • An affinity for planning and conducting new and innovative projects is essential.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess an MSc /M Eng. degree in Chemical engineering.
  • PhD will be an advantage.
  • Professional registration and voluntary association membership will be an advantage.
