Job description
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:            
OBJECTIVE:
Expression of interest to appoint Postdoctoral Research Fellows to conduct fundamental and applied research in pyrometallurgy. The successful candidates will provide technical support in the development, demonstration and commercialisation of products and services developed by Mintek. Contributing to human capital development and willingness to work towards a common purpose, with a strong sense of equity and inclusion, are non-negotiable attributes of the role.  
 
AREAS OF INTEREST:
1. Computational methods in engineering and process design
2. Refractory materials design and characterisation
3. Circular economy systems and low carbon pyrometallurgy
4. Technology and process demonstration

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
·         Doctoral degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Ceramic, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, with a strong emphasis on pyrometallurgy research and/or technology development.
·         Ability to develop high impact experimental techniques, models and prototypes from first principles.
·         Strong portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed ISI-rated journals.
·         Experience in designing pyrometallurgical processes and flowsheets using open source computational and design tools is an added advantage.
·         Postdoctoral research experience in a similar environment is an added advantage.
·         Ability to attract industry and/or bilateral research funding is highly advantageous.
·         Professional registration is an added advantage.
·         Experience with postgraduate supervision is an added advantage.

Job description
  • Performing the total scope of work in the Division, including business development, fundamental
    and applied research, technology demonstration, technology transfer and commercialisation.
  • Driving high impact RDI programmes, commercial projects, contract research and funding strategies
    to drive productivity and ensure the financial sustainability of the Division.
  • Executing key disciplinary and multi-disciplinary assignments that require integration of specialist
    knowledge and skills to drive the Division’s capabilities in experimentation, testing and technology
    demonstration.
  • Conceptualising and drafting technical proposals for local and international funding to sustain worldclass
    RDI infrastructure and human capital capacity at Mintek.
  • Providing administrative support to the Division, including managing and coordinating tender and
    CAPEX processes to sustain world-class RDI infrastructure.
  • Contributing to human capital development through coaching and mentoring of colleagues,
    including providing postgraduate supervision where necessary.
 
Minimum requirements
Master’s degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or
equivalent, with a strong focus on pyrometallurgy research and/or technology development. A PhD is an added advantage.

The successful candidate will support the development of groundbreaking solutions for water treatment and diagnostic tools for both infectious and non-communicable diseases by leveraging minerals as foundational building blocks. Key responsibilities will be to synthesize and characterize nanomaterials, integrate nanomaterials into advanced nanosystems, draft technical reports and manage project records, liaise with stakeholders to resolve project-related issues, and uphold strict safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards while developing professional expertise.
 
Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose is to provide graduates with practical workplace experience, bridging the gap between academic theory and professional practice to enhance their long-term employability.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Investigations and Design:
·         Conduct nanomaterial synthesis and characterization.
·         Perform system integration and contribute to prototype design
·         Collaborate with the project team to produce accurate and actionable technical designs and reports.
Contract and Project Management Assistance:
·         Support effective project management by tracking progress and maintaining detailed records.
