Job description
Key Performance Indicators:
 
  • Assist Head/Divisional Manager to obtain sponsored research assignments from the mining/metallurgical industry by providing specialist expertise to maximize Mintek’s research contribution to the minerals industry.
  • Provide consulting services to clients in respect of specialist research projects by advising them on specific aspects, in order to maintain effective liaison.
  • Guide the planning, coordination and execution of the project work or experimental work to be done by applying the available theoretical knowledge, experience and expertise in such a way that the results are achieved with maximum overall efficiency.
  • Motivate the completion of the projects/analyses, within the planned time so that commitments to dependent Mintek individuals and groups/outside organisations can be met.
  • Maintain maximum validity of experimental results by using accepted validation techniques and control the application of these techniques by subordinate research teams so that work can continue with confidence.
  • Manage and motivate all subordinates, project team members and those interacting with the position to cooperate willingly so that work may proceed effectively.
  • Recommend and advise superiors and sponsors on further research projects or experimental work or the termination of a project, depending on the findings obtained from current work, to maximise the ultimate benefit.
  • Produce required reports, papers, talks and other presentations and obtain their acceptance by ensuring that their quality and presentation are of a high standard. Keep constantly up-to-date in respect of the latest technology in the relevant functional area so that the latest applicable technology and techniques can always be used for the research projects, or analytical work undertaken.
 
Minimum requirements
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 – 5 years’ post degree experience in a metallurgical role
  • 2 years’ experience in hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Drafting proposals that meet stakeholder objectives.
  • Client relationship management.
  • The incumbent must be highly organised, able to multi-task and pay attention to detail, with excellent verbal and written communication skill.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Min: BSc Hons/BEng in Chemical Engineering
  • Ideal: MSc

The candidate will be responsible for the planning office and providing maintenance and project planning services to Mintek Campus which involves work planning and scheduling, budget monitoring, labour planning and reporting. Along with providing support as an ERP user within CMS.
 
Job description
PLANNING
  • Scheduling of activities taking into account the requirements of different engineering disciplines to complete a task e.g. electrical, mechanical, facilities and projects.
  • Monitor and supervise artisan activities to ensure that work specification is properly detailed and that execution of scheduled work is carried out without delays.
  • Ensure that work schedules are sequenced such that unnecessary delays are eliminated.
  • Ensure that manufacturing drawings are correctly received and issued to the relevant sections within CMS.
  • Notify Heads and Senior technicians of the status of warrantees and supplier evaluation requirements.
  • Ensure that planned maintenance activities are communicated timeously to the end users.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
  •  Ensure the planning office is adequately capacitated and that work load is distributed adequately in the planning office.
  •  Ensure that all resources are employed optimally, minimise idle time and wastage of material.
  •  Plan for adequate resources to successfully execute maintenance within allocated time taking into account available material, spares and skills.
  •  Ensure billable hours are captured on SAP.
REPORTING
  • Review maintenance plans on weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and 6 monthly taking into account availability of resources and priority areas to plan for  maintenance schedules.
  • Interpret SAP PM data and generate reports on resource utilization, maintenance effectiveness, planning accuracy and schedule compliance. 
  • Generate ad-hoc reports for Heads and Manager.
PROCUREMENT
  •  Work hand in hand with Finance Department to see that orders are placed correctly, on time and to the correct vendors.
  •  Do costing for projects and provide quotes to other divisions.
  •  Assist the procurement process of equipment by providing specifications and identification of suitable suppliers required for projects and works orders.
  •  Detail project scope for quotations to meet client requirements.
  •  Estimate cost using technical experience and expertise, Submit quotations and submit project cost estimates to clients.
  •  Use original equipment manufacturer specifications, SANAS codes and statutory requirements to create new maintenance tasks for new Mintek assets.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
  •  Investigate current processes, implement improvement initiatives to improve efficiency of the planning office and workflow throughout CMS.
  •  Use original equipment manufacturer specifications, SANAS codes and statutory requirements to create new maintenance tasks for new Mintek assets.
  • Interpret SAP PM data to determine mean time between failure (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR) for new assets to determine ideal maintenance plans under Mintek conditions to increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
 
HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Identify hazards and mitigating factors associated with work activities.
  • Understand statutory compliance for a facility and required processes to comply.
 
OTHER
  • Liaise with Internal clients on issues of maintenance that affect their plant and equipment.
 
Minimum requirements
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree in Mechanical /Electrical engineering or Maintenance Management
  • Trade Test Certificate (Ideal)
  • Minimum 5 year experience as a planner in a multi-discipline maintenance environment.
  • Minimum 5 years computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) planning and scheduling experience.
  • Ideal: 7 years experience
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • High proficiency in Excel 
  • Knowledge and experience of waterfall planning systems, project tracking and quantity surveying is crucial.

Job description
PREVENTIVE MAINTENACE ACTIVITIES
  • Execute planned maintenance inspections on various mechanical and electrical plant and equipment, making use of mechanical and electrical theories to effectively interpret conditions of plant and equipment and determine causes thereof.
  • Compile reports on the status of inspected equipment
  • Submit report with recommendations to Supervisor
  • Identify resources required to execute required maintenance
  • Plan execution of recommended maintenance activities
  • Execute planned maintenance as per plan.

REACTIVE MAINTENANCE
 
  • Respond to breakdown of equipment and plant
  • Assess the extent and cause of failure
  • Identify the best remedial action to be taken, taking into account the impact of downtime and cost of repair.
  • Inform Supervisor of the failure/breakdown and request required spares
  • Execute repairs to failed equipment or plant and commission. Ensure high quality of workmanship to prevent recurrence of failure.
 
PROJECTS
  • Interpret drawings (PFD’s, P&ID’s and Structural) to assemble plant and equipment as requested by internal clients
  • Design manufacture and install water, air, gas and steam reticulation according to relevant quality and safety standards.
  • Commission pilot plants
  • Assists internal clients in decommissioning pilot plants
 
OTHER
  • Perform risk assessment before carrying out work
  • Supervise subordinates and ensure they work safely
  • Act in the Foreman position in the absence of Foreman
