INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT OFFICER

REMUNERATION PACKAGE: NEGOTIABLE

 
Job Purpose
To create, analyse and maintain an inventory of information and research findings in the mining and allied environments to facilitate dissemination and access to research outputs.
 
Minimum Requirements
• A degree or equivalent in Information Management, Knowledge Management.
•  Information Knowledge Management Skills.
•  A Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Knowledge Management Experience in a Research Environment.
• Data Management Skills.
• Experience in the mining environment is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Intermediate Levels of computer literacy in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Intermediate levels skills in relevant Knowledge management technologies.
• A Minimum of 3 years’ knowledge management experience in a research environment.
 
 
Key performance areas
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
• Develop an annual knowledge management implementation programme that is aligned to the CoE strategy and research plan.
• Develop and manage appropriate knowledge management policies and procedures that facilitate access to and flow of information.
• Define, identify and manage key information flows and optimize knowledge capture.
• Upload and update research and relevant reports on the e-library platform.
• Liaise regularly with the Records Management.
• Send all information and knowledge to the records management as per Information and Knowledge Management SOP MHSC.
• Design, develop and maintain in-house data and knowledge bases of relevant material, including library catalogue.
• Develop and manage the maintenance of a collection of physical (books, articles etc.) and digital.
• Facilitate effective and optimal utilization of knowledge bases and information within the COE.
• Develop the design, search and retrieval processes to harvest relevant research from a wide range of (online and hard-copy) sources.
• Conduct search and retrieval of research findings and information as required.
• Monitor knowledge, research and information that is produced in industry and identify relevant information to addition to the knowledge database and inventory.
• Source industry based knowledge and classify and store it in the knowledge database and inventory.
• Track trends and patterns that emerge in industry and integrate this into the trend analysis process.
• Conduct searches on knowledge in the database and identify trends and patterns.
• Analyse knowledge and information and identify trends, gaps and patterns.
• Provide analysis and trends as an input to the research planning process.
• Make recommendations on research themes and priorities based on analysis of knowledge and research findings, industry available information and knowledge and identified gaps.
