The role in a nutshell:
You will form part of the Onboarding Operations team based in Cape Town and Kuala Lumpur, reporting to the Head of Onboarding Strategy and Customer Due Diligence Operations. Your role as a Business Optimisation Analyst (Data) will be to use your knowledge of data analysis and data processing to inform key business decisions in the Onboarding Operations team and other business areas. You will work in a fast paced environment, collaborating with other business units, including Engineering, Product, Compliance and Data teams, servicing the business on an international level together with the teams from South East Asia, Africa and Europe. You will be responsible for creating dashboards, extracting data, writing reports, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to determine business initiatives’ success.

Your mission will be:

Interpret trends and patterns in data and present findings and actionable insights to senior leaders of the business
Collaborate with data engineers to design and build any pipelines/data models needed to support analytical and reporting needs
Structure large data sets to find usable information
Design metrics to help assess how the onboarding teams and broader business are performing on a day-to-day basis
Report regularly on business and team performance
Work closely with the relevant business stakeholders to understand their data needs
Collaborate with teams to determine, collect and analyse required data to address business needs while ensuring it is of the highest quality, reliable and trusted
Build visually compelling dashboards that communicate insights to stakeholders (often non-technical) to allow data-informed decision making
Use data-driven analysis to identify opportunities for improvement and automation in onboarding operations processes
Review delivery of providers against Service Level Agreements and support negotiations from a data perspective

The ideal candidate will have:

A qualification in Data Analysis or similar quantitative fields.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in the data or business optimisation space
Intermediate skills in SQL, Python and experience working with data pipelines.
Experience working with business intelligence platforms such as Looker, Tableau, DataBricks, PowerBI or similar
Familiar with data governance principles and best practices
Passionate about data analytics and related disciplines
Friendly, transparent, articulate and driven to succeed.
Experience in a customer service / customer onboarding / KYC environment is advantageous
Ability to lead change through entrepreneurial thinking, a strong sense of responsibility and a very high level of integrity

A little about you:

Experience: Minimum of 8-10+ years of experience in a senior leadership role within a reputable cryptocurrency exchange, electronic trading venue, or leading financial institution, with a direct focus on market operations or product management. Experience in Digital Assets is required.
Market Knowledge: Deep expertise in market microstructure, electronic trading systems, liquidity strategies, and order book management.
Leadership: Proven track record of building, mentoring, and managing high-performing, geographically distributed teams.

Our AML Operations team looks after our global business and consists of a growing team of enthusiastic, energetic Lunauts. The AML Operations team takes care of the operational aspects of financial crime risk identification matters for Luno's global business. Our mission is to create a world class compliance experience for Luno as well as our customers. We make sure we have the processes and information available that enable us to truly understand our customer risk, we monitor for any external red flags customers may raise when they use Luno and we deal with any questions our business or customers may have on what good looks like. We operate in regional teams around the world with our central team in South Africa.

Your mission will involve:

Management and oversight of the Screening Team on all functional and people management aspects;
Managing and supervising Screening Team members, including:
- providing guidance on execution of functional duties and as required, become actively involved to meet schedules and resolve problems;
- supporting personal development;
- building relationships with and between team members, set expectations, define and delegate tasks and help remove obstacles;
- Managing team member onboarding and role based training;
- Conducts regular 1-1s with team members and raise performance matters with key stakeholders;
- Maintain open lines of communication with team members, including on priorities, policy and processes;
Managing all aspects of customer screening and the outcomes thereof in respect of:
- sanctions, adverse media and political exposure;
- private watch lists;

Governance and reporting in respect of team performance, progress tracking, service level agreements, key risk indicators and operational metrics;

Establishing processes for, review of and managing of quality assurance;
Drafting and implementing standard operating procedures, including in respect of account closures, exits and the unverifying of customer accounts, and guidance to ensure compliance with regulations;
Coordination and management of senior management approvals;

Collaborate with AML Operations Manager in developing, planning and managing the Screening Team’s operational plans and strategic goals, including in relation to Smart Goals;

Supporting external and internal compliance audits;
Supporting Luno’s compliance efforts across multiple geographies; and

The ideal candidate will have:

A degree or diploma from a recognised tertiary institution
A minimum of 5 years work experience in an Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Terrorist Financing related field
Strong analytical mindset

About the team:
The Analytics team forms part of the broader Anti-Financial Crime division and you will report to the Analytics Manager who is based in Cape Town. Our vision is to become the best Anti-Financial Crime team in the industry, globally!

The role in a nutshell:
As an Anti-Financial Crime Modelling Analyst, you’ll be focusing on building and empowering the Anti-Financial Crime Analytics team with the Analytics Manager. You’ll also be working closely with other Anti-Financial Crime team members. You’ll be facilitating cross-team projects, helping shape our platform to reward genuine behaviour and identify and respond to unusual or suspected behaviour, whilst contributing to our growth plan.

Your mission will be:

Develop, monitor and refine AML/Fraud models and rules to minimise false positives and surface high-risk behaviour, including feature engineering, tuning, drift monitoring, and effectiveness testing (precision/recall, PR curves, shadow/A-B tests)
Partner with Anti-Fraud to design pro-active fraud detection and smarter friction (In-house fraud monitoring rules and ML-driven alternatives), balancing risk vs customer experience.
Ship production-ready analytics in Databricks (Python/PySpark, Jobs/Workflows); collaborate with data platform development to ensure data readiness and reliability.
Publish decisionable insights in Looker (LookML explores, dashboards, alerting) and/or Databricks dashboards.
Document and govern changes (model docs, audit trail, playbooks)
Raise the bar on quality (unit tests for logic, code reviews, reproducible notebooks, clear acceptance criteria) and contribute to our backlog burn-down.

A little about you:

A relevant bachelor’s degree (stats, maths, CS, engineering, economics or similar).
3+ years in analytics/modeling for fraud/AML/risk (or adjacent high-stakes domains).
Strong Python (pandas, PySpark), solid SQL, and hands-on Databricks (Delta Lake, Jobs/Workflows; Model Serving, AutoML and productionizing models a plus).
Looker / LookML experience building reliable explores and dashboards for operators.
Comfort with model evaluation & monitoring (sampling, class imbalance, drift, stability, calibration, champion/challenger).
Experience tuning rules/thresholds and measuring downstream workload impact (throughput, SLA, false-positive rate).
Good data engineering hygiene: version control (GitLab), CI basics, testing, and documentation.
Bonus points for familiarity with ComplyAdvantage, Chainalysis, Unity Catalog/RLS/CLS in a financial-services context.

A little about you
Experience

Proven experience as a software engineer, with exposure to or strong interest in quantitative finance, trading systems, or financial infrastructure.
Experience working with trading models, pricing systems, or data-driven decision engines is a strong advantage.

Technical Strength

Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, with solid foundations in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
Experience writing production-grade, performance-sensitive systems.
Familiarity with numerical computing, modelling, or statistical techniques is beneficial.

Quantitative Mindset

Comfortable working with mathematical models and translating them into software.
Able to reason about trade-offs between model sophistication, performance, and operational risk.
