CATTLEMAN

 

KARAN BEEF Farming (Pty) Ltd is looking for experienced Cattleman with a minimum of 4 year’s experience working at a cattle feedlot.

The successful candidate must have extensive cattle experience, a self-starter, and have a passion to work with cattle.

 

Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Animal health qualification
  • Conversant in both English and Afrikaans
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer Literate
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail is paramount.
  • Must be prepared to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to work weekends, night shift, overtime and on public holidays.

 

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Identify and attend to sick cattle
  • Familiar with the Foot and Mouth disease
  • Managing cow and calf herds
  • Processing incoming cattle
  • Offloading and dispatching of cattle
  • Re-vaccination of cattle
  • Placing cattle in the correct pens after processing
  • Management of grazing camps
  • Postmortems
  • Daily data capturing
  • Ordering and issuing of medicines and record keeping of medicines and stock.
  • Feed bunk management.
  • Checking dam water levels
  • Paperwork on incoming cattle
  • Daily planning and movement of cattle
  • HR duties: Managing staff, timesheets, leave, discipline.

SHEQ / FOOD SAFETY OFFICER

 

KARAN BEEF Farming Albert Falls is seeking a SHEQ / FOOD SAFETY OFFICER to take ownership of the abattoir food safety management system, while driving and coordinating SHEQ standards across the feedlot, farms and abattoir in conjunction with appointed divisional H&S officers, operational managers and department heads.

 

Food Safety:

  • Managing the abattoir food safety system, records and documentation in line with ISO 22000 and export requirements.
  • Maintaining audit readiness and coordinating external audit close-out.
  • Owning HACCP / food safety plans, SOP reviews and related controls.
  • Managing non-conformances, corrective actions and escalation discipline.
  • Overseeing product holds, releases, disposals and related decision rules.
  • Monitoring micro, environmental swab and sanitation verification results.
  • Coordinating traceability exercises and mock recalls.
  • Investigating food safety, quality and customer complaint matters.
  • Reporting food safety performance, risks and actions to management.

 

SHEQ / H&S oversight and coordination:

  • Coordinating group SHEQ standards, registers, reporting and audit readiness.
  • Driving consistent H&S system implementation across the feedlot, farms and abattoir.
  • Working with appointed divisional H&S officers as site-based resources and points of contact.
  • Conducting or coordinating H&S inspections, workplace observations and compliance checks.
  • Monitoring incidents, investigations, corrective actions and safety inspection close-out.
  • Following up overdue actions and escalating unresolved or high-risk matters.
  • Maintaining consistent H&S documentation, registers, training records and audit files.
  • Reviewing H&S trends, near misses and repeat findings with divisional and operational managers.
  • Supporting department heads with practical H&S controls and contractor safety compliance.
  • Supporting environmental compliance reporting, corrective actions and incident escalation.

 

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Environmental Health, Quality Management or related field.
  • HACCP training and practical food safety management system experience.
  • Recognised H&S qualification or training, such as SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, ISO 45001 or equivalent, with working knowledge of OHS requirements.
  • 3 – 5 years experience in an abattoir, meat processing, FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience coordinating SHEQ systems across multiple operational areas or sites.

The above mentioned position has become vacant in Heidelberg, Nigel and Dundee.

The successful candidate will be a well-experienced, hands-on individual and will be in possession of the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Experience on tractors, farm implements, trucks, and earth moving equipment.

FEEDMILL MANAGER

 

KARAN BEEF Farming (Pty) Ltd cattle feedlot is seeking to appoint an experienced and results driven Feedmill Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of our feedmill in Dundee.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient production and delivery of quality feed, managing feed mill staff, maintaining equipment and operational standards, and ensuring the smooth running of all feedmill activities. Typical responsibilities include overseeing feed production, coordinating maintenance, managing stock and raw materials, ensuring quality control, and maintaining health and safety standards.

 

Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the daily operations of the feed mill.
  • Supervise and lead feedmill personnel.
  • Ensure consistent production of high-quality cattle feed.
  • Monitor feed inventory, raw material usage, and stock control.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs of feedmill equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production and operational records.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and company standards.
  • Work closely with feedlot management to ensure feed requirements are met efficiently.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Extensive experience in feedmill operations
  • Knowledge of cattle nutrition and feedlot feeding systems.
  • Proven management and leadership experience.
  • Strong mechanical and maintenance knowledge.
  • Good administrative, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
  • Must be able to work outside normal working hours, weekends, public holidays
  • Computer literacy and record-keeping experience.
  • Valid driver's licence.

 

Advantageous:

  • Previous experience as a Feedmill Manager at a cattle feedlot will be a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of cattle nutrition and feedlot feeding systems.
  • Experience in managing feed quality and production efficiency.
