KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor correction of identified anomalies/non-compliance. Conduct site visits on service-related contracts. Monitor progress and costs of framework contracts and report to the Contracts Engineer. Schedule meetings and assist in chairing them between service providers and JW to review progress, problems, and safety issues. Improve contract documents and filing. Report on Monthly expenditure of contracts.

PURPOSE
To assist the Works Manager in the operations of the wastewater purification works such that all wastewater and associated sludge are treated and disposed of in compliance with the license conditions as laid down in terms of the National Water Act, at minimum cost and with full regard for the safety of employees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the operations of a treatment works so that the effluent produced complies with the special standards of the National Water Act and license conditions (legal requirements). Check compliance daily when laboratory results are received. Make operational changes in time to prevent noncompliance conditions. In the event of non-compliance, make the required changes to improve the quality of effluent, sludge treatment and disposal. Identify causes and put checks and procedures in place on the process to prevent recurring non-compliances. Manage operational changes on a daily basis based on information from online analysers and results obtained from the Laboratory. Manage the sludge disposal daily to meet the requirements of the sludge disposal guidelines. Manage possible pollution and health risks. Planning, executing, and managing all operations, shutdowns and breakdowns in the Works. Responsible for staff meetings and operational training. Plan the shift and standby timetables monthly and in six months. Manage the operation of the SCADA system. Develop in-house training courses on operational and process aspects. Provide the necessary information for internal and external auditors. Do follow-up reports and action corrective action. Manage and control costs on electricity, chemicals, overtime, fuel, vehicles etc. Carry out responsibilities in compliance with all criteria as set out in the OHS Act. Report faulty equipment to the maintenance section via the SAP defect system. Follow up on the progress of urgent repairs influencing the compliance of effluent. Advise maintenance staff on the urgency of the relevant equipment to the process and the effects on effluent quality and sludge treatment and disposal operations. Assist with the investigation of alternative methods of operations and chemicals that achieve equal or better results to sustain affordable treatment practices.

- National Diploma in Wastewater / Chemistry / Chemical Engineering / BSc in Life Sciences (NQF 6).
- 5 years’ experience in wastewater treatment environment of which 2 must be at supervisory level Class V operator with DWS.
- Knowledge of SCADA Systems and OHASA 1993.
- Computer literary
- Valid Code EB License.

Co-ordinate and administer of goods and services provided, ongoing.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Grade 12 (NQF4), and at least 6 months Secretarial Certificate or Diploma
- 3 years administrative or secretarial experience
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Computer literacy

PURPOSE
Carry out installation, field maintenance, repairs, commissioning on a combination of ± 500 Electromagnetic and mechanical bulk flow meters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure daily maintenance of accurate records in bulk meter technical section and installation of data. Check and capture bulk meter readings daily for electronic storage. Capture bulk meter details and maintenance data, daily. Check and capture bulk meter readings daily for electronic storage. Capture bulk meter details and maintenance data, daily. Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, calibrates and commission electronic and mechanical flow meters. Connects strategic bulk meters to telemetering system. Provides bulk metering technical support daily to Johannesburg Water Operations. Troubleshoots telemetry and process controller hardware and maintains a functional knowledge of the operation of the telemetering system software and hardware. Makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all Bulk water flow meters. Lays out, installs, and put into service new flow transmitters and the wiring and linking of output signals to related telemetering / Scada related equipment. Reads and interprets Instrumentation and Electrical wiring diagrams, daily. Make estimates of labour, materials and supplies as necessary for project work, as and when required. Performs in-situ flow verification. Provides technical assistance to Flow laboratory. Ensure efficient record keeping, makes verbal and written reports of work performed, daily. Supervise staff and contractor in accordance with organizational policies through proper work allocation, daily. Perform on the job training, as and when required. Ensure safety in the workplace is practiced daily in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Grade 12/N3 (NQF4) and Trade Test (Instrument Technician)
- 3 years electronic and mechanical metering experience including installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Valid Driver’s License
