MANAGER INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY – REF:MIT-JW349/2020
REMUNERATION: R1 062 048 TOTAL COST TO COMPANY PER ANNUM
 
 
PURPOSE
Manage Johannesburg Water’s Innovation and Technology Unit to ensure continuous coordination of performance improvement, innovative changes in technology and service delivery research and development in support of the business units.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and present the annual budget and operations plan for incorporation into the departmental budget. Review the budget to ensure achievement of objectives within budget targets. Provide leadership and management in the section through proactive planning. Contribute to change in organizational culture through appropriate planning and leadership, creating a culture of innovation. Plan all Innovation and Technology projects and Research and Development projects in conjunction with business units. Control expenditure by ensuring spending is appropriate and necessary for achievement of objectives. Develop and implement control systems and processes necessary for the Innovation and Technology sections’ success. 
Manage all other resources of the Innovation and Technology section in a responsible and cost-effective manner. Manage supply-pushed (based on new technological possibilities) and demand led (based on social needs and market requirements) innovations and ensure the diffusion of appropriate innovations throughout the company. Encourage the adoption of innovative business practices and technology to promote productivity and competitiveness. Ensure improvement in the strategies and support activities that lead to innovation. Promote the research and development of appropriate/new technologies and applications in order to address specific issues in the company. Coordinate and drive adoption of new/appropriate technologies. Maintain a focus on issues of innovation and technology throughout activities. Ensure effective selection and packaging of knowledge and information to support business processes and service delivery. Promote mutually beneficial partnerships between the business community and educational institutions. Provide accurate and reliable information, data and analysis to stakeholders that promote understanding and informs policy. Network with national and international organizations. Develop a metric for measuring innovation. Ensure that a comprehensive (advanced) technology capability assessment, including research programmes and research infrastructure, is conducted. Ensure research and development activities in accordance with the highest quality standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential qualifications and experience:
• MSc (NQF 8) (Engineering or Science)
• 5 years experience in research and development, innovation and appropriate technology, in a water and sanitation environment.
• Valid Drivers License
