INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT INSPECTOR

PURPOSE
Conduct inspection of industrial premises to establish the generation of industrial effluent as well as the existence of wash-bay, separator (oil, grease and sand trap) and borehole
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete sampling worksheets accurately and in full e.g. Witness signature and particulars. Take samples from agreed discharge point, e.g. from manhole. Take a bigger portion of the sample and divide it into two portions, one for the inspector and the other for the company in cases where a company requires a portion. Carry out investigations on Storm water pollution complaints received from the City of Johannesburg. Conduct a survey as requested by the IE Manager by completing a survey form to provide relevant information such as company detail, water account, number of staff, canteen facilities, non-effluent water usages. Conduct routine surveys annually to ensure that records such as contact details, changes in ownership/type of business are correct. Fill in survey forms correctly and accurately in all respects not exceeding 14 days of due date.

Provide information or clarification in response to queries from management. Inform the Industrial Effluent Analyst about problems encountered in the area. Record sub meter readings on a six monthly basis to ascertain the volume of water that is not discharged to sewer by specific industries for the sake of a rebate on their effluent accounts. Take correct steps of communication and approach in order to ease the abuse yet at the same time not moving away from the Company’s procedures. Carry out re-inspections where contravention notices have been served. Inspection of noxious industries where a wide variety of hazardous situations may be encountered.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential qualifications and experience:
• Grade 12 (NQF 4) with Maths and Science
• 2 years experience in inspections in an industrial environment or sampling procedures including health, safety and quality principles. Working knowledge of customer liaison.
• Code B Drivers License.
