• Conduct planning in conjunction with planning and maintenance sections.

• Provides operational planning to ensure the work program is carried out taking into account Public opinion, planning of other Roads departments and outcome of regional investigations directly or indirectly influencing road marking program.
• Manage the key result areas of subordinates to ensure that regional and ultimately, JRA goals and objectives are achieved.
• Ensures that as far as possible work is confined to one area so as to minimise time loss when travelling between jobs.
• Ensure work program is adaptable to changes i.e. Weather, Public pressure etc.
• Measure performance against agreed targets.
• Ensures the optimum use of all resources on region, maintaining equipment in good working order and those repairs are carried out without delay.
• Streamline operational procedures in order to facilitate the work program.

• Physical on-site inspection.
• Verify measurements, quality of work done by DCP testers.
• Record all observed asset damage/theft cases on standard form.
• Inform relevant managers of the damage / theft.
• Obtain claim details from COJ legal/risk department.
• Retrieve work order records that were used to repair the defects for the claim that was lodged.
• Log service requests.

11. ASPHALT AND AGGREGATES TESTER X2

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform on-site visits to obtain samples and receive samples from contractors.
• Perform tests on Asphalt products at the plant and onsite.
• Conduct Quality control at the plant and onsite.
• Make Asphalt briquettes.
• Conduct aggregates testing and bitumen related tests for Asphalt quality assurance.
• Participate in Asphalt mix designs.
• Apply knowledge of different soil types in testing the Aggregates.
• Obtain soil samples on proposed construction sites through site visits and/or from contractors.
• Use SANS3001 to determine the aggregates properties.
• Conduct UCS (Unconfined Compressive Strength) and CBR (California Bearing ratio) testing to determine soil strength.
• Analyse the results and report on moisture, density, compressive strength and soil grade to the relevant manager.
• Aggregates sampling CBR. UCS (Unconfined Compressive Strength).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepare test samples according to the test’s methods.
• Assist Testers with carrying out laboratory/ site analysis and testing of materials as per test methods.
• Ensure the labs are kept clean and neat and to ensure that any equipment, tools and areas used during testing are cleaned up.
• Ensure that there is adequate supply of consumables in the lab necessary for testing or advising the person who is responsible for ordering when supplies run low.
• Familiarize, comply and follow the safety requirements of the laboratory.
REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA
• Grade 12 or National Certificate (N1-N3) or relevant NQF equivalent qualification in Civil/Chemical Engineering.
• 1-3 years’ experience in a similar lab environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Receive instructions to collect supplies, documents, parcels and/or correspondence, or arranging to collect supplies, documents, parcels and/or correspondence as per schedule.
• Arrive and collect point and verify accuracy and completeness of supplies, documents, parcels and/or correspondence to be collected.
• Sign-off receipt and collection.
• Deliver supplies, documents, collect supplies, documents, parcels and/or correspondence to be delivered to entities external to the JRA Regions.
• Complete the Delivery Book (writing in the type of item; the date; destination; name of person addressed to; time collected from Depot).
• Deliver and collect items (e.g. stone breakers; fuel; repair parts for machinery; etc.) for Operation Teams working on sites: delivery within the JRA and outside of the JRA (e.g. ESKOM; City of Joburg).
• Transport staff to and from other JRA Regional Offices and/or meeting venues within the JRA, and other destinations outside the JRA (e.g. ESKOM, Pension Fund Office & Medical Care Facilities.
• Check in return of vehicle to Depot.
• In the event of an accident with injuries, completing and submitting to the Admin Officer, a Claim Recovery Form.
REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA
• Grade 12 or NQF equivalent. Code 8 or 10 driver’s license.
• Up to 2 years’ experience working as a messenger and or driver in any industry.
