CONSERVATION RANGER
(X1 PERMANENT)
• (R14 751.97 - R19 914.21 PER MONTH)
JOB PURPOSE: Develop, implement and oversee the implementation of policies, procedures, legislative requirements, standards and systems to provide environmental protection services and natural resources management; with the goal of sustaining the existence of specific species in the Protected Areas, which include bird sanctuaries, Nature Reserves and as well as the Zoo farm and implements environmental regulations and bylaws.
Key Performance Areas: • Intervene when illegal activity is identified in the park, including but not limited to illegal removal of flora and fauna, illegal dumping, squatting & patrols designated areas during shift • Liaise with JMPD as required in conjunction with Superior • Attend to complaints issued to JCPZ regarding the safety of conservatory and protected areas; attending to complaints based on priority • May be called upon to conduct search-and-rescue missions, initiate conservation efforts; help fight fires and enforce the law in other relevant ways in line with the function.
Engage the Community on safety matters pertaining to JCPZ’s jurisdiction: • Attend the required Safety meetings • Attend the Crime Sector Forum gatherings based on the geographical location • Meet with external stakeholders to identify key focus areas to educate the community through visits to various facilities and other institutions.
Report on activities completed and status of designated areas: • Provide daily reports from patrol sheets and tick off all sequences required; and provide comments from park complainants wherever possible • Report any unresolved issues to the Superior to escalate or further engage with JMPD on legal breaches and other risks.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Certificate in Natural Sciences or related field • National Diploma in Nature Conservation/ Wildlife Management/ Game Ranch Management or Degree in Environmental Management • Code C1 /Public Driver’s License • 2 Years of experience in Law Enforcement in the Conservation environment • 2 Years of Experience in Conservation and Patrolling.
