PERMANENT POSITION
The Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is an entity of the City of Johannesburg that stimulates and operates Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre in order provide the integrated management of theatre.

DESIGNATION: EVENTS COORDINATOR
DEPARTMENT: HOPSITALITY AND CATERING
REPORTING: HOPSITLITY MANAGER
SALARY RANGE: R17, 314.75 (basic salary excluding benefits)
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF4) or an equivalent qualification
- 1 year work experience in hospitality management or events management or travel & tourism, events coordination and planning or similar role.
- Certificate in hospitality management or events management or travel & tourism will be an added advantage.
Primary Function
To ensure that all events/functions are planned in detail, providing full coordination to the kitchen and front of house operations, as well as including the providing outstanding customer service and organising memorable events that meet the best standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and design events while managing all project delivery elements within the limits.
- Liaise with clients to identify their needs and to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Provide feedback and periodic reports to Hospitality Manager.
- Propose ideas to improve provided services and event quality.
- Organize facilities and manage all event’s details such as décor, catering, entertainment, transportation, location, invitee list, special guests, equipment, promotional material.
- Ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations.
- Specify staff requirements and coordinate their activities.
- Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day.
- Ensure that duty rooters are complied, making certain that adequate numbers of experienced permanent and casual waiting staff are on duty.
- Ensure that regular On-The-Job Training is carried out to enable staff to perform their duties correctly.
- Check equipment against the fiction checklist to ensure that no items have been misappropriated or mislaid.
- Submit all cost functions breakdown to the financial controller.
- Ensure that all quotes & final tax invoices are sent to client and financial controller timeously so avoid and bill discrepancies.
- Ensure that the purchasing and requisition process is always followed.
- Maintain proper inventory of all assets and hired operating equipment.

DESIGNATION: SENIOR STAGE TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT: ROODEPOORT THEATRE
REPORTING: TECHNICAL MANAGER
SALARY RANGE: R25 422.17 (basic salary excluding benefits)
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF4) or an equivalent qualification
- National Diploma (NQF6) in Live Technical Production / Theatre or equivalent qualification.
- 1-year relevant experience preferably working as a freelancer, in respective venues Theatres, Touring company or similar.
- Advanced understanding and experience of Audio, Lighting, Audio Visual technology, safe operation of rigging, counterweight flying systems and hoists, building, and striking sets, staging and preparing spaces for performances and events.
Primary Function
Responsible for all in-house productions and co-productions, planning, procurement, inter-action with business partners and eventual creative standards. Work closely with the Technical Manager to offer excellent service to all customers and departments. Provide effective and efficient supervision of all technical operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist Technical Manager, Production and Buildings in a comprehensive program of maintenance for all stages.
- Operation and technical support of advanced Audio, Lighting and Audio Visual technology comprising of: programing and operating equipment which includes (but is not limited to): Digico, Midas, Allen and Heath, Reaper, Protools, Offline editors, GrandMa, Avolites, Qlab, Data Video Switchers, Projector networking and mapping, PTZ and Block cameras, Dante and IP Network protocols.
- Good understanding of Stage machinery including hand-line fly system.
- Demonstrated management skills.
- Report all mechanical faults to the maintenance department and ensure that they are rectified in time.
- Monitor and maintain the set production technical standard on show runs.
- Maintain inventories of set, props and machinery and logs of production activities.
- Responsible for the safe and proper storing of sets and props.
- Ensure safe use and handling of stage equipment at all times.
- Maintain at all times a safe working environment and ensure that all health and safety policies are adhered to in relation to performance spaces, technical equipment and customers.
- Enforce health and safety regulation.
- Inspect periodically hanging gear and make sure that it is safe to use and in good repair.
- Ensure safety cables are attached to all hanging gear.
- Replace faulty equipment and recommend to the senior management to upgrade to newer and safer technology when necessary.
- Determine client’s production requirements and give the necessary support Identify training needs and recommend to the senior management.
- Carry out and/or supervise Stage Technicians and crew. This includes receiving, erecting, constructing, adjusting, maintaining and dismantling of scenery, stage properties and equipment for all stages.
- Assist in monitoring levels of stock to ensure the efficient operation of all services. Inform the Technical Manager of any shortfalls.
