​ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORS BASED IN EAST LONDON 
Fixed Term Contract ending March 2025 
Remuneration: R 208,00 rate per day 
The iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority is seeking to appoint Environmental Monitors to assist with the implementation and enforcement of the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act, regulations and other related and applicable legislations. 
 
Requirements:
Grade 12, any post matric qualification related to Environmental Management, Conservation and/or Public Management/Administration will be an added advantage. A valid code 08 driver’s license. Experience or understanding of oceans and coastal environment or related field will be an added advantage. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team. Must be computer literate. The incumbent must be able to work independently with minimal supervision under extreme pressure. Be willing to travel and work long hours. Be physically fit. 
 
Duties:
  • Conduct inspections along the coast in order to ensure compliance to permits and permit conditions in terms of Coastal Waters Discharge permits and Off-Road Vehicle permits. 
  • Identify and capture evidence on suspected illegal structures within a Coastal Public Property and refer for enforcement intervention. 
  • Identify suspected illegal discharges along the coast and within estuaries and refer for enforcement action. 
  • Conduct coastal patrols in order to identify all illegal activities related to the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act (Act 24 of 2008). Provide support during Compliance and Enforcement joint operations under Initiative 5 of Operation Phakisa. 
  • Collect information and data for planning of joint operations.
