Responsibilities
Bank Reconciliation and Transaction Monitoring
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts against the organisation’s accounting records.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and internal accounting records.
- Capture and process relevant adjustments and journal entries accurately within the financial accounting system.
- Monitor and clear outstanding reconciling items, including uncleared payments, deposits, transfers, and bank charges.
- Ensure reconciliations are completed within prescribed timelines to support accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain supporting documentation for reconciliations to facilitate internal and external audit review.
Cash Management Support
- Monitor cash inflows and outflows to ensure the organisation maintains adequate liquidity.
- Assist in the preparation of cash flow reports and forecasts for management review.
- Liaise with the finance and treasury functions to support effective cash management and planning.
- Monitor bank balances and alert management to potential cash flow risks or irregular transactions.
Financial Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and well-organised financial records relating to all bank transactions.
- Prepare bank reconciliation reports for management review and approval.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Provide reconciled bank account information and supporting documentation for internal and external audit processes.
Budget Administration Support
- Assist in compiling National Treasury reporting databases, including the Estimates of National Expenditure (ENE) and Medium-Term Expenditure submissions.
- Upload approved and revised budgets into the financial management system (Sage Accpac).
- Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly budget performance reports.
- Verify the accuracy of General Ledger accounts on purchase requisitions and activation forms prior to processing.
- Support the annual budget preparation and planning process in collaboration with the finance team.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure that all bank reconciliation processes comply with organisational financial policies, internal control procedures, and applicable accounting standards.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of effective internal controls to prevent errors, irregular transactions, or potential fraud.
- Identify and report unusual or suspicious transactions promptly to the Payments Specialist or Finance Manager.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails to support governance, transparency, and audit readiness.
Requirements
• Diploma (NQF 6)in Accounting, Finance, or a related financial management field.
• Added advantage: Degree (NQF 7)
• Minimum off three (3) 1-2 years’ experience in bank reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, or general accounting functions.
• Experience working within a public sector finance environment will be an advantage.
