SPECIALIST PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

The position of Specialist Product Development is vacant. The Specialist Product Development will report directly to the Senior Manager Health Policy and form part of the Research and Development Division. The position is based at Head Office, Pretoria.
The total remuneration package will be will be based on qualifications and experience.
 
The Specialist Product Development will be required to support the Senior Manager Health Policy through the implementation of the following Key Performance Areas (KPAs):
  • Receive and review proposal submissions for relevance, completeness and analysis.
  • Use evidence-based research methods, for new products and benefit enhancements and feasibility.
  • Maintain a product and benefit repository.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of research methodologies.
  • Review and validate clinical appropriateness and cost-effectiveness of interventions.
  • Analyse and interpretation of research and evidence for decision-making
  • Support projects and programs delivered by the product Development Committee.
  • Provide support to Expert Panels
  • Be part of the multidisciplinary team to assist in research and publish on strategic topics.
  • Following a strict code of ethics and protecting any confidential information at all times.
  • Attend committees and forums where allocated
 
Qualification requirements are:
  • A minimum of a health science degree or Master’s degree in Public Health, health sciences or similar.
  • MBCHB would be advantageous.
  • MMED in Public health or any health specialty will be advantageous.
  • 1-3 years experience within the Medical InsuranceScheme Industry
  • Prior experience in Product Development would be advantageous.
  • Scientific writing skills
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Work within a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Knowledge and application of the significant health policies and the regulatory framework in South Africa
  • Understanding of research methods
  • A logical and investigative mind
  • A methodical approach to work
  • Team player with ability to work independently.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff in non-scientific positions.
  • Computer literate with experience with MS Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint,

  • Have Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to engage with various stakeholders
 
Desirable
  • Experience in Health technology assessment or Evidence-based medicine.
  • Have an understanding of the medical schemes industry

CLINICAL SPECIALIST MEDICAL AND SURGICAL DEVICES

The position of Clinical Specialist Medical and Surgical Devices is vacant. The Clinical Specialist Medical and Surgical Devices will report directly to the Senior Manager of Strategic Sourcing and form part of the Healthcare Management division. This is a permanent position based in Pretoria.
 
The total remuneration package will be market-related and negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
 
The Clinical Specialist Medical and Surgical Devices will be required to provide support to the Senior Manager: Strategic Sourcing in the implementation of the following Key Performance Areas (KPAs):
  • Support, promote and implement the overarching strategic goals and objectives of the Strategic Sourcing division.
  • Support and promote the effective management of the functional and clinical requests for medical devices and surgical appliances and prostheses from Providers.
  • Effective decision-making in the requests for orthotics and prosthetics that are fit-for-purpose, to improve operational and financial efficiencies.
  • Improve supplier relations by implementing strategic sourcing strategies to reduce sourcing costs and realise savings of medical and surgical appliances and devices.
  • Ability to interpret the supply market analysis of high-cost medical and surgical devices and appliances in respect of supplier and product spend.
  • Strengthen supplier relationships and identify potential business opportunities that will effectively assess opportunities from local and/or international suppliers.
  • Establish a supplier measurement and monitoring tool to monitor suppliers’ performances against defined key performance targets.
  • Support the maintenance of a supplier database (repository) for price negotiations, creative bidding and quotations etc.
  • Implement strategies to support the sourcing of cost effective and cost efficient medical and surgical devices that contribute to positive clinical outcomes and improved service delivery.
  • Interpretation and application of the clinical and billing coding of surgical appliances and medical devices (NAPPI codes, ICD-10 coding, RPL etc.)
  • Support Value-Based Contracting through contract negotiations, Preferred Supplier Networks & Agreements of high- cost drivers of medical devices etc.
  • Effective management of suppliers, products and spend through a Strategic Sourcing risk management tool and institute mitigations to curb costs etc.
  • Ensure compliance with strategic sourcing policies and procedures, ethical practices and adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
 
Qualification requirements are:
  •  Minimum of a 3-year Degree, Diploma or NQF Level 6 Diploma/Degree in Medical/Clinical Sciences Qualification (e.g. Nursing, Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist or Pharmaceutical qualification.)
  • Financial qualification, supply chain management or procurement etc. will be an added advantage.
  • At least 4-6 years’ work experience in the healthcare funding/medical schemes industry, with extensive experience in medical and surgical appliances and devices space.
  • Clinical and functional experience in physical rehabilitation in, in and out of hospital and or theatre experience in the management of medical devices and surgical appliances and prostheses.
  •  Sound knowledge of medical scheme environment, private healthcare funding within the South African healthcare context.
  • Extensive experience in medical devices and surgical appliances classification and categorisation. Vast analytical experience of NAPPI coding, descriptors, billing and clinical coding and the ability to collect and collate purposeful data from various sources
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently under pressure and as part of a team.
  •  Team player with good organisational skills.
  • Adaptable and resilient
  •  Project Management skills with extensive experience in worksheets etc. will be an added advantage and proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Organised and have excellent time management skills. Must be adaptable and resilient.
  • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel at short notice.
  • Registration with the relevant regulatory body (HPCSA/ SANCA) is a pre-requisite for professional practice.
 
 Desirable:
