Key Job Purpose:  
  • Monitor and audit performance against set targets for the condition and cleanliness as well as to monitor state of repair of the Gautrain station buildings, operational and equipment buildings (train and bus depots, workshops, etc.), passenger conveyance systems, security systems, communication networks including PA systems, ticket vending and validating machines, fire equipment, and access control facilities as required by the train and feeder bus services.   
  • Provide input into the design, integration, and implementation of smart stations concept. Provide input in the development of the non-patronage revenue. These include defining the business requirements specifications, establishing scope of works, defining design criteria and providing general subject matter expert advice. 
  • Manage applicable stages of project lifecycle from initiation through to project execution, handover / commissioning and project close out with respect to deliverables, approved budget, schedule and compliance with statutory requirements for safety, quality and environment. 
  • Perform research and undertake technology planning, innovation and obsolescence management for station facilities in accordance with its evolution in order to inform and align to business strategy; 
 
Key Outcomes:  
  • Manage compliance of the Concessionaire to the System Asset Management Plan for Gautrain facilities.  
  • Update Asset Management maintenance information system (including the asset register), Archibus with maintenance and replacements records 
  • Manage compliance to performance measures and monitoring system by verification of asset condition, cleanliness and performance perform an assurance function over the projects as per relevant project lifecycle, from initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control and close out. 
  • Provide input into solutions for System capacity in terms of assets utilisation for current and future projections. 
  • Evaluate and provide input into solutions to enhance passenger experience and comfort within Gautrain station facilities.

  • To execute an assurance role over the Concessionaire’s implementation of core and non-core Power Supply and Distribution System maintenance plan, which includes Main Propulsion Substation (MPS) and Autotransformer Paralleling Substations (APS), for long-term preservation of assets and adherence to performance measures as per Concession Agreement, i.e. monitor and audit the integrity of the sub-systems against set targets for the condition as well as to monitor state of repair of HV/MV/LV substation plant, diesel electric generators, battery tripping units (BTU), distribution boards (DB), ring main units (RMU), uninterruptible power supply (UPS), switchgear, station building and tunnel low voltage distribution, earthing, lightning systems, and wayside cables.   
  • Provide input into the development of strategies to implement the concept of station microgrid or local energy grid for Gautrain stations. Provides input into the design, integration, and implementation of alternative and renewable energy sources, substation automation, energy management solutions and smart grid technologies. Provide input in the development of non-patronage revenue. These include defining the business requirements specifications, technology scouting establishing scope of works, defining design criteria and providing general subject matter expert advice. 
  • Manage the applicable stages of project lifecycle from initiation through to project execution, handover / commissioning and project close out with respect to deliverables, approved budget, schedule and compliance with statutory requirements for safety, quality and environment. 
  • Perform research and undertake technology planning, innovation and obsolescence management for core and non-core Power Supply and Distribution System in accordance with its evolution in order to inform and align to business strategy;
 
Key Outcomes:  
  • Manage the compliance of the Concessionaire to the Asset Management Plan for core and non-core Power Supply and Distribution System asset management and maintenance plans. 
  • Manage compliance to performance measures and monitoring system by verification of Gautrain asset condition, integrity and performance and identify areas of improvement. 
  • Execute and, where necessary, perform an assurance function over the projects as per relevant project lifecycle, from initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control and close out. 
  • Analyse the Concessionaire’s power supply and distribution systems assets condition reports to assure that all aspects of assets life cycle management are met, i.e. performance targets, replacements or upgrade of assets. 
  • Provide input into development and implementation of local energy grids at Gautrain stations and for train propulsion, new technologies, energy management and innovative solutions to improve energy security and energy cost reduction for Gautrain System. 
  • Update asset management maintenance information system (including the asset register), with maintenance and replacements records. 
  • Assures compliance of the Concessionaire to the relevant legislative requirements 
  • Provide technical input for the compilation of reports as required by the Annual Performance Plan, i.e., Quarterly and Annual Reports.
 
Qualifications 
  • Minimum:  NQF 6 level qualification in Electrical engineering with minimum Two (2) year of experience in electrical engineering – LV, MV and HV systems, control and instrumentation, and energy management  
  • Driver’s License 
  • Computer proficiency  
 
Experience: 
  • Minimum:  Two (2) year experience in maintenance engineering and maintenance of railway electrical systems  
  • Relevant legislations governing the management of public infrastructure assets 
  • Relevant international and national electrical design specification and standards. 
 
Training: 
  • Electrical equipment maintenance and management systems 
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant application of statutory/legal requirements, the Occupational Health & Safety Acts 85 of 1993
